Job description

We are seeking energetic, outgoing team players that have an interest in fitness and can answer general fitness questions and support members in an enjoyable environment. Our awesome fitness staff works with a diverse population every day to promote health and wellness and support the fitness goals of all our members.

We are looking to fill up the following shifts:
* Monday - Friday 4:30pm to 9pm
* Monday, Wednesday, Friday 12pm to 4:30pm
* Tuesday 7am to 11:30am
* Sunday 12:30 to 5pm

POSITION SUMMARY:
These general functions will be carried out in keeping with the Goals, Policies and Mission of the YMCA of the East Bay. The fitness coach (fitness floor support) team member will provide excellent customer service to members, making sure the fitness spaces are organized and safe in an enjoyable and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Communicate with members and respond to general gym and equipment inquiries.
2. Maintain working knowledge of fitness trends and equipment to provide effective information and support to members.
3. Maintain a safe fitness center environment and report damaged equipment.  
4. Maintain accurate records as required.
5. Maintain all relevant certifications
6. Maintain a professional appearance and a healthy lifestyle.
7. Actively participate in workshops, trainings, and staff meetings as directed by the supervisor.
8. Follow all YMCA policies and procedures, such as emergency respondent protocol.
9. Support special events, assist in other areas, and perform other duties as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
* Physically perform all skills required of a fitness coach. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
* Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions of the position
* Must occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
* Visual ability to clearly monitor activities
* Mobility to quickly respond to emergencies

QUALIFICATIONS:

* One year of fitness-related experience
* Current CPR/AED and first aid certifications, such as Red Cross and American Heart Association
* Completion of YMCA program-specific and trainer certifications must be accomplished within 60 days of hire
* Ability to relate effectively to diverse people from all social and economic segments of the community
* Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and other computer programs necessary to perform the duties of the job
* At least 18 years of age
