Supplier Recovery Manager information

What is a supplier recovery manager?

Supplier Recovery Managers are professionals responsible for managing and resolving issues related to supplier performance, particularly when a supplier fails to meet quality, cost, or delivery expectations. They work closely with suppliers to identify root causes of problems, develop recovery plans, and ensure corrective actions are implemented. Their goal is to restore the supplier's performance to the required standards while minimizing disruption to the business. This role often involves cross-functional collaboration with procurement, quality, and supply chain teams.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a supplier recovery manager?

To thrive as a Supplier Recovery Manager, you need expertise in supply chain management, problem-solving, and a background in engineering or business, often supported by a relevant bachelor's degree. Familiarity with ERP systems, data analysis tools, and project management certifications like PMP are commonly required. Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills are essential for resolving supplier issues and driving performance improvements. These skills ensure timely recovery of supplier performance, minimize supply chain disruptions, and support overall business objectives.

What challenges do supplier recovery managers face and how are they addressed?

Supplier Recovery Managers often encounter challenges such as delayed deliveries, quality issues, or financial instability among suppliers. Addressing these challenges typically involves conducting root cause analyses, setting up corrective action plans, and working collaboratively with both internal teams and external suppliers to resolve issues. Building strong relationships and maintaining clear communication are key, as is the ability to negotiate and implement recovery strategies under tight timelines. These managers also frequently use data analytics to identify trends and proactively mitigate risks.
