Job description

About Sunrock

At Sunrock, we’ve been building North Carolina’s communities for over 75 years. As a family-owned and growing heavy civil contractor, we’re committed to delivering high-quality utility projects while investing in our people. Our Utility Superintendents lead the crews who make critical infrastructure possible — from water and sewer systems to storm drainage.

What You’ll Do

As a Utility Superintendent, you’ll oversee all aspects of underground utility installation on Sunrock’s heavy civil projects. You’ll plan manpower, equipment, and materials, direct field crews, enforce safety standards, and ensure work is completed to spec, on schedule, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise crews installing water, sewer, storm drain, and related systems.

  • Plan, coordinate, and resource daily/weekly operations.

  • Enforce OSHA, trench safety, and confined space requirements.

  • Mentor foremen, operators, and laborers to strengthen the team.

  • Monitor productivity, track materials, and control project costs.

  • Communicate with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and utility companies.

  • Resolve conflicts with existing utilities or site conditions to keep projects on track.

Required:
  • 5+ years of experience supervising utility construction in heavy civil projects.

  • Strong knowledge of underground utility methods, trenching, and compaction.

  • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings and specs.

  • Proven leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Valid NC Driver’s License.

Preferred:

  • OSHA 10 Hour Certification.

  • Stormwater Supervisor Level II Certification.

  • Lane Closure Certification.

  • Trenching Safety & Confined Space Certification.

What We Offer:
  • Highly competitive pay + annual bonus opportunity (paid weekly).

  • Relocation assistance available.

  • 3 weeks PTO, growing up to 5 weeks with service.

  • $1,000 referral bonus program.

  • Guaranteed 40 hours during winter season.

  • Full benefits package — medical, dental, vision, life insurance.

  • Disability & supplemental benefits that pay cash directly to you.

  • 401(k) with 4% company match.

  • Safety Incentive Program.

  • Apprenticeship & Foreman Development Programs.

  • Well-maintained, modern equipment.

Apply today and take the lead in building the underground systems that keep North Carolina’s communities running strong.

Join us and pave the way to success! Apply now and let's build a brighter future together.
