Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Department Manager, Assembly FLSA STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Manager, Manufacturing
SUMMARY
The manufacturing operations include but are not limited to injection molding and various decorative and assembly processes for plastic parts and components most of which are automotive. The manager organizes, plans and directs the production operations on all the shifts through subordinate Supervisors and Team Leaders, to assure on time delivery of quality product at the most economical cost.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
The Assembly Department Manager is responsible for the following major tasks (check those that apply):
  • Plans and improves standardized production methods and objectives to achieve safety, quality, delivery, environmental, and cost targets.
  • Assures proper staffing, development of staff, training, and employee involvement, in appropriate areas.
  • Leads department in continuous improvement and cost reduction activities.
  • Troubleshoots and develops countermeasures for all departmental problems including quality, productivity, and employee relations using root-cause problem solving methods.
  • Assures safe practices and the maintenance of proper equipment conditions.
  • Reviews practices and procedures, and leads activities directed toward implementation of Summit Lean Manufacturing Systems to eliminate all forms of waste.
  • Interfaces with other departmental units to ensure that customer satisfaction targets are achieved.
  • Interfaces with Engineering in KBPD procedures, VE/VA opportunities, and new product launches.
  • Manages all production activities in related departments.
  • Direction, motivation and review of Manufacturing Supervisors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
College degree plus 2 years manufacturing experience or 4 years progressive experience in a technical or management position in a manufacturing environment.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Possesses the ability to gather and analyze information and make decisions from a limited number of choices.
  • A minimum score of 50 on the Wonderlic Select Assessment (Traditional Score of 26 on the cognitive portion).

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
This position typically does not require any travel.
