Job description

This position is responsible for:

Plans, coordinates, and directs the functions of the Summer Music and Arts program; always ensures the quality of the programs and safety of youth; provides guidance and role modeling to youth and ensures safety and a positive experience for campers. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides quality music and arts instruction to campers.
  • Teaches music theory as it applies to the appropriate level for playing purposes.
  • Provides appropriate lessons for instruction time.
  • Reviews assigned homework with students and re-teach skills if necessary.
  • Be responsible for the care of instruments during class, with necessary repairs immediately reported to the Camp Director. 
  • Prepares students for recitals and concerts.
  • Plans, schedules, assign and monitor the students' work in progress and upon competition to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Recommends and develops activities which will develop abilities, motor and learning skills of students. 
  • Coordinates the program and activity within the policies and operating procedures of camp. 
  • Maintains discipline and acceptable behaviors of students, which will create an atmosphere of friendliness and security during all program periods, enabling all students to feel welcome and comfortable. 
  • Participates and assists in various classes as assigned. 
  • Provides constant care for the needs of the campers in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner. 
  • Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside activities.
  • Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, and other all-camp activities and camp functions. 
  • Sits with camper tables during meals and serves as a table monitor when needed. 
  • Keeps work areas neat, clean, and ready for inspection. 
  • Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.

Education and Experience

  • Six months experience teaching music education and teaching experience, with the ability to play and teach lessons in a classroom setting involving more than one student preferred or 
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
