Summer Tech Companies information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive at a summer tech company, and why are they important?

To thrive at a summer tech company, you generally need a solid grasp of programming fundamentals, problem-solving skills, and relevant coursework or experience in computer science or engineering. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as Git, development environments, and popular programming languages (like Python, Java, or JavaScript) is typically expected. Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability help you integrate quickly and contribute effectively to fast-paced projects. These skills and qualities are crucial because they enable you to deliver value quickly within short-term internships or projects and work efficiently within collaborative tech environments.

What types of projects can I expect to work on as an intern at a tech company during the summer?

As a summer intern at a tech company, you’ll typically be assigned to real-world projects that contribute directly to the company’s products or services. These projects often involve collaborating with full-time engineers, designers, or product managers on tasks like developing new features, fixing bugs, conducting user research, or analyzing data. The goal is to give you practical experience and a sense of ownership, while also allowing the company to benefit from your fresh perspective. You may also participate in team meetings, code reviews, and company-wide events, providing a comprehensive view of the tech industry’s collaborative environment.

What are summer tech companies?

Summer tech companies are businesses in the technology sector that offer internship programs, short-term projects, or employment opportunities specifically during the summer months. These companies often provide students and recent graduates with hands-on experience in areas such as software engineering, product management, data analysis, and IT support. Participating in a summer tech company program can help individuals build valuable skills, network with industry professionals, and potentially secure full-time positions after graduation.

Job description

Got a few weeks or months off from school? Turn your summer break into real income, real business experience, and a potential long-term opportunity.

Hexagon IT Solutions is looking for motivated college students to join our Summer Sales Program. This role is perfect for students who are outgoing, self-motivated, and interested in sales, business, technology, marketing, or entrepreneurship.

You will introduce business owners and entrepreneurs to Hexagon IT Solutions and our technology services, including websites, surveys, CRM solutions, mobile apps, and custom software development. No technical experience is required. We provide training, sales materials, and support.

Work setting: On-site / hybrid opportunities may be available in the Salt Lake City area.

What You'll Do

  • Identify and reach out to local business owners, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers.
  • Introduce Hexagon IT Solutions and explain how our services can help businesses grow, streamline operations, and improve their digital presence.
  • Set appointments, start conversations, and help move qualified prospects toward a closed deal.
  • Follow up with leads, track activity, and communicate clearly with the Hexagon team.
  • Represent the company professionally in person, by phone, through email, and through social channels.

Services You'll Promote

  • Websites and landing pages
  • Online surveys and lead-capture tools
  • CRM solutions and sales systems
  • Mobile apps
  • Custom software development
  • Business automation and technology consulting

What You'll Earn

  • 30% commission on closed deals.
  • No cap on earnings.
  • Paid when client payment is received.
  • Performance bonuses available.

Example: If you help close a $3,000 website project, your commission would be $900. If you help close a $10,000 software or CRM project, your commission would be $3,000.

Qualifications

Who This Is Perfect For

  • College students with a few weeks or months off for summer break.
  • Students interested in sales, business, technology, marketing, entrepreneurship, or software.
  • Outgoing, self-motivated people who are comfortable starting conversations.
  • Students who want real-world experience instead of a typical hourly summer job.
  • People who want the chance to build a longer-term opportunity beyond the summer.

Requirements

  • Must be self-motivated, reliable, and professional.
  • Comfortable talking with business owners and entrepreneurs.
  • Strong communication and follow-up skills.
  • Willingness to learn the basics of Hexagon IT Solutions' services.
  • No technical experience required.
  • Sales experience is helpful but not required.

  • Earn based on results instead of being limited to an hourly wage.
  • Build real sales, business, and communication experience.
  • Learn how technology services are sold to real companies.
  • Work with a growing technology and software company.
  • Create a potential long-term opportunity if the fit is strong.
