Position Summary
Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise. The instructor will adhere to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the Calhoun Community College Personnel Handbook, the Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the Alabama Community College System.

An additional summer assignment may be available: $13,001 - $29,184 (3 months)
(Salary placement within this range is determined by your academic credentials and documented years of full-time related work experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise for both credit and non-credit courses.
  2. Teach at varied times and places and in varied formats based on student demand; day or evening, on the Decatur campus, Huntsville Campus or at other sites, in the traditional classroom, hybrid or web format, and distance education.
  3. Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to institutional, divisional, departmental, and individual criteria.
  4. Collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records including grades, attendance rosters, absences, withdrawal, and/or class drop information to appropriate offices.
  5. Assist with the collection of placement and retention of program completer data.
  6. Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested, including course syllabi, program outlines, and catalog material.
  7. Participate in scheduled in-service activities, Honor's Day, and Graduation ceremonies.
  8. Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
  9. Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work. Maintain assigned office hours.
  10. Maintain or increase competency in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies.
  11. Assist in the development of discipline-specific student learning outcome objectives.
  12. Assess student learning using multiple assessment strategies.
  13. Analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students for the purpose of improving and expanding student learning.
  14. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.
  15. Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the instructional program.
  16. Serve on institutional, local, and/or statewide committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution when appointed or when elected.
  17. Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog, Personnel Handbook, and State Board Policy Manual; and follow such policies and procedures.
  18. Perform other appropriate professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

Qualifications
  1. A minimum of an Associate's degree from an accredited institution with a certificate in EMT at the Paramedic Level is required.
  2. Minimum of three (3) years Full-Time pre-hospital care experience as a Paramedic is required.
  3. Certification as a Paramedic, licensed in the State of Alabama or subject to a reciprocity agreement with the State of Alabama is required.
  4. Current certification as a provider in ACLS, BCLS, ITLS (or equivalent), and PALS (or equivalent) or current certification as an instructor in ACLS, BCLS, ITLS (or equivalent), and PALS (or equivalent) is required.
  5. Experience in teaching the EMS National DOT curriculum is required.
Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments:
  1. Successful completion of an approved DOT EMS Instructor course or NAEMSE Instructor course.
  2. Competency in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom and willingness to develop and teach web-based courses.
  3. Possess the ability to function as a lead instructor and to take responsibility for course content being taught.
  4. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to conduct individual and small group instruction.
  6. Understanding of basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  7. Previous experience using WebCT, Blackboard, or other course management software, from an instructor standpoint.
  8. Ability to learn new teaching pedagogy, and new software, as required.
  9. An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college system.
  10. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  11. Ability to deal effectively with students, other employees, and the public.
  12. Commitment to all students, including those of diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds;
  13. Successful problem solving skills.

The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions.
