Job description

Position description
The Department of Professional and Continuing Education (Extension) at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary, part-time instructors to teach on-site and online courses for our Project Management Program for upcoming openings.
We are seeking qualified applicants who possess current subject matter expertise and have a passion for teaching in the following programs and courses.

    • Facilities Management
    • Sports Administration
    • Athletic Branding & Partnerships
    • Global Frameworks in Amateur Sports
    • Business Administration and Management
    • Business Finance and Accounting

Instructor duties include but are not limited to:
  • Continuously improve course content and delivery based on program feedback, - student evaluations, and emerging industry practices.
  • Prepare and deliver course materials, assignments, and assessments that align with defined learning outcomes.
  • Design interactive, engaging classroom and online activities that reinforce key concepts and support diverse learning styles.
  • Stay current in the subject area and incorporate new developments, technologies, and best practices into instruction.
  • Use subject-matter expertise and relevant resources to enhance the learning experience.
  • Clearly communicate course objectives, learning outcomes, expectations, and grading policies to students.
  • Collaborate with PaCE program staff and fellow instructors to ensure course outcomes align with certificate and departmental goals.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and respond promptly to student questions and needs.
  • Employ inclusive, culturally responsive teaching methodologies that support adult learners, non-native English speakers, and students with accommodations.
  • Evaluate student achievement based on defined outcomes and assign grades in a fair and transparent manner.
  • Submit final grades to the university system within two weeks of course completion.
  • Address student inquiries regarding grades in consultation with the Program Director, as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate instructional and grading records in compliance with UCSB policies and accreditation standards.

The posting will remain open until March 31, 2027 to accommodate department needs. The pool will close on March 31, 2027; if you would like to continue to be considered after that time, and the pooled position is advertised again, you will need to submit a new application.

Screening of applicants begins immediately after the Initial Review Date has passed; some appointments may begin as early as the 2026 summer quarter. The number of these temporary, part-time, non-tenure track, academic positions varies from quarter to quarter, depending on the needs of the department. Appointments are offered on a course-by-course basis, and appointment length is based upon course section schedule(s). Appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
A bachelor's degree in a related field or a minimum of one professional certification in a relevant field:

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in sports, athletics administration, or a closely related management field (e.g., operations, facilities, compliance, sponsorships, or marketing).
Preferred qualifications
  • Master's degree or over 5 years experience in a related professional field.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with adult learners and professionals, particularly in online or hybrid environments.
  • Proven ability to stay current with evolving trends, technologies, and ethical standards in athletics and sports governance. Experience in organized sports at the collegiate, professional, or community level (including playing, coaching, compliance, athletic administration, or sports marketing).
  • Experience designing or teaching professional development courses, training programs, or certificate-level curricula.
  • Strong working knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and online instructional tools.
  • Relevant professional certifications (optional but valued), such as NIAAA (National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association), NCAA compliance certification, or other recognized credentials in coaching, sports administration, or marketing.
  • Active membership in professional organizations such as NASSM (North American Society for Sport Management), NACDA (National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics), or other comparable associations that demonstrate engagement with the sports industry and ongoing professional development.
