Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: The summer camp counselor position is designed to assist the directors and other faculty of the various EDUcamps by caring for each camper. Counselors are responsible to ensure the campers have an excellent, safe, and Christ-honoring EDUcamp experience. Counselors will report directly to the men’s & women’s lead counselors and to the EDUcamp Director. This application is for either EDUcamp Jr. in June (2nd-8th grades), EDUcamp in July (9th-12th grades), or both.
***Hiring for summer 2027***

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ambassador for BJU—A primary function of the EDUcamp counselor is to ensure that campers have an excellent experience on the BJU campus and, because of that experience, consider BJU as a strong option for their college education.
  • Assist with EDUcamps—Each counselor will be assigned to one specific EDUcamp during the course of a week (examples include Premed Camp, Theatre Camp, Sports Leadership Camp, and Global Fluency Camp). In this capacity, the counselor will assist the faculty of the particular camp with any needs that arise during the week and will show interest in what the campers are learning.
  • Guide campers—counselors will live in the residence halls with campers and will ensure that they have a safe and Christ-honoring experience on campus. Counselors will ensure that campers arrive at required activities on time and know how to navigate the BJU campus.
  • Spiritual leadership—counselors will be responsible for evening devotions in the residence halls. This will include presenting devotional challenges, leading discussions from Scripture, and guiding prayer groups. Counselors may also be expected to share their salvation testimony during the evening service. Additionally, counselors will make themselves available to assist campers with spiritual needs as they are presented.
  • Other duties as assigned—being a summer camp counselor means that you are flexible and have a servant’s heart. Counselors may be called on to perform other duties that benefit the BJU camp experience but are outside of the specific duties listed above.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be enrolled as a student at Bob Jones University and have completed at least one year at BJU.
  • Consistent, Christ-honoring testimony
  • Flexibility/adaptability
  • Teachable spirit
  • Ability to counsel young people
  • Working knowledge of BJU academic programs & opportunities
  • Valid driver’s license (preferred, not required)
  • CPR/First Aid certified (preferred, not required)

**Bob Jones University students only**
