Lecturer - AI Engine National Security & Defense
City: Indianapolis
Job Description:
Job Summary
The College of Engineering (CoE) invites applications for a Lecturer positions with teaching responsibilities in areas related to Purdue Engineering Think AI Initiative. This position is non-faculty rank, full-time, academic year (9 month, with opportunity for summer teaching appointment), staff teaching position with continuing appointment beginning in August 2026.
The AI Engine - National Security and Defense will teach up to eight sections within the Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) Program each semester and contribute to ongoing AI curriculum development to prepare the next generation of engineers with cutting-edge AI curricula, experiential learning, and interdisciplinary training that meet national and global workforce needs. The experiential learning component of this position will include project sponsors from the Department of War and the Intelligence Community as well as closely-affiliated corporations. This position also has the potential to develop and teach a 1-credit applied tools course under guidance of Think AI and VIP Directors and AI Engine Associate Director.
Education
Applicants must have a B.S. and M.S. in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field and a strong background in AI. Ph.D. preferred.
Experience
Applicants should have experience in the practice or teaching of AI foundational knowledge and skills, which include problem formulation, computational thinking, and probabilistic thinking. In addition, applicants should have experience in mentoring undergraduate students in further developing and using their AI skills in real-world projects. And finally, applicants should have experience in military matters.
