Summer Swim Instructor

Quakertown, PA | Seasonal,Part Time, Hourly (5 hours minimum per week required)| Weekday Days, Evenings & Weekends | $12.50 - $23 per hour

Passionate about teaching the lifesaving skill of swimming? We are looking for individuals, age 15+ to serve as group and private swim instructors. As a swim instructor, you develop important skills such as communication, leadership and responsibility that will serve you for a lifetime!

What is needed to be a Summer Swim Instructor:

  • Age 15+
  • Experience with kids and passionate about teaching children to swim
  • Ability to pass American Red Cross CPR Certification
  • Ability to complete our in-water skills assessment

The responsibilities we will trust you with as our Summer Swim Instructor:

    • Working with groups and individuals to help them achieve their swim-skill goals
    • Ensuring that lessons are conducted in accordance with the YMCA's internal lesson plans and policies
    • Setting and cleaning up equipment for lessons
    • Communicating with participants and their guardians about lesson progress and goals
    • Ensuring a safe, nurturing environment for the students to thrive in
    • Working collaboratively with aquatics staff, lifeguards, and supervisors to support overall pool operations and programming
    • Participating in staff training and in-service meetings
  • Level 1 Swim Instructor should have the experience in:
      • Supporting swim lesson instructors teaching to small groups, following established curricula
      • Monitoring participants to ensure safety and proper technique
      • Providing feedback and encouragement to participants to support their progress
      • Setting and cleaning up equipment for lessons
      • Maintaining a minimum of 5 hours a week of group and/or private lessons
  • Level 2 Swim Instructor should have the additional expertise:
      • Teaching swimming lessons to individuals or small groups, following established curricula
      • Monitoring participants to ensure safety and proper technique
      • Providing feedback and encouragement to participants to support their progress
      • Providing one-on-one swim instruction tailored to the client's goals and skill level
      • Developing and implementing customized lesson plans to improve client abilities
      • Maintaining accurate scheduling of private and semi-private participants using scheduling system
      • Maintaining a minimum of 5 hours a week of group and/or private lessons
  • Level 3 Swim Instructor should have the additional expertise in:
    • Mentoring new instructors
    • Providing advanced swim instruction to clients, addressing specific goals and challenges
    • Mentoring Level I instructors, offering guidance and support on best practices
    • Managing a large book of clients and classes (12 hours minimum/week part-time, 24 hours minimum/week full-time during peak times of 3:30PM - 8:30PM weekdays and 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM weekends)
    • Facilitating staff trainings
