Job description

Education Unlimitedยฎ provides academic summer camps & pre-college summer programs for students entering grades 4-12. Our summer programs include public speaking camps, college admissions prep programs, science camps, summer acting camp, writing camps, computer camp, leadership camp, video production camp, and college tours.
Acting Camp Instructor
Available sessions: Instructors may be hired for one session or both sessions of this program. Please indicate your availability on your application. Housing and meals are included for instructors.

Acting Course Descriptions:
Education Unlimited offers two acting camps:
High School Actors Workshop
  • The High School Actors Workshop is a one-week program that focuses on developing students' acting, creative expression, and public speaking abilities. Through daily monologue work, ensemble scene work, and diverse elective options such as Improvisation, Reader's Theatre, and Audition Technique, students will learn to establish a connection with their audience and showcase their unique charisma. The program covers various areas, including monologues, ensemble scene work, and elective options.
  • Each day, students start with a physical and vocal warm-up, followed by games and exercises aimed at honing their voice, body, and instinctual abilities. The Scene Study class focuses on contemporary plays and films, pairing students to analyze, rehearse, and perform assigned scenes. By drawing from various acting techniques such as Stanislavsky, Hagen, Shurtleff, and Donnellan, the course helps students understand the basic building blocks of realistic acting.
  • The program is tailored to individual students' needs, offering both an introduction and deepening of their acting skills. Students will learn valuable techniques and practice exercises designed to increase their range, projection, articulation, and character development. In addition, they will work on ensemble scene work, learning how to work together as a cohesive ensemble while also shining when the spotlight is on them.
  • The final monologue showcase and ensemble scene work will give students the opportunity to perform for fellow campers, families, and friends, showcasing the skills and techniques they have learned throughout the program. By the end of the workshop, students will have grown in their craft and gained the confidence and tools to pursue their passion for acting.

Middle School Actors Workshop - students entering grades 6-8
  • The Middle School Actors Workshop is a one-week program that helps students develop their acting, creative expression, and public speaking skills in a safe and supportive environment. Through daily monologue and scene work, students learn how to captivate an audience and effectively communicate their message. Elective classes, such as improvisation and script writing, help students develop skills in specific areas.
  • Experienced instructors provide personalized feedback to each student, helping them identify areas for improvement and build upon their strengths. At the end of the workshop, students showcase their skills in a final performance, demonstrating their growth and accomplishments. Ensemble Scene Work is a key element of the workshop, emphasizing collaboration and teamwork to help students develop lifelong skills in communication, teamwork, and creative expression.
  • Instructors provide individualized feedback throughout the workshop, helping students gain a deeper understanding of ensemble acting and valuable skills in communication and collaboration. The Middle School Actors Workshop is a dynamic and rewarding experience that prepares students to confidently perform on stage in a variety of settings.

Qualifications:
The California Actors Workshop is seeking an experienced and inspiring acting instructor to join our summer faculty for one or two-week conservatory-style programs for middle-school or high school students. The successful candidate will have professional credentials as an actor or director as well as experience teaching. An MFA in Acting or Directing is highly desirable. All applicants should have a strong foundation in Stanislavski-based realism, but additional specialties in musical theater, comedy, movement, voice, improvisation, on-camera acting, or verse drama would also be welcome.
  • 3+ years' experience teaching acting or significant subject matter knowledge.
  • Experience working with high school or college age students in an academic setting.
  • Bachelor's degree required; MFA preferred.A passion for theater education.
  • A calm and professional demeanor.
  • Self-motivation and follow-through.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Instructors should also be available and willing to assist the camp director with active supervision, recreational activities, and some administrative tasks. Instructors are expected to act as mentors, and will help lead field trips and guide students on excursions. With the support of the entire staff, instructors are responsible for the health and safety of students, in addition to fulfilling instructional objectives. This is a residential position - room, board, and parking on campus is provided for the duration of the program.
