Job Summary:
Crooked Media is looking for a Staff Writer to infuse and inject the Crooked voice and tone into our programming and products across the brand. Reporting to the Head Writer, you will support writing needs across the various departments, and be a key driver in ensuring our brand voice is effectively and consistently applied across our podcasts, marketing materials, consumer products and various other ways Crooked interacts with our audience.
This role is based out of our Los Angeles office, and follows a hybrid schedule based on the job's needs. We are ideally looking for Los Angeles-based candidates or candidates willing to relocate before the start date.

How You'll Spend Your Time:
Writing, Development & Production

  • Attend weekly editorial meetings and pitch podcast segments and comedy ideas for podcasts (i.e. Lovett or Leave It, etc.) and other shows as assigned by the Head Writer
  • Write jokes and provide script punch-ups for podcasts, including content for tour and/or other live shows
  • Work with producers and Head Writer to develop tentpole event concepts and segments, including writing for annual programming events
  • Attend live podcast tapings two times a week and support production
  • Back up to Head Writer and Sr. Staff Writer as needed
  • Support video team writing needs, including punch-ups and brainstorming across platforms (as time permits)
Marketing and Ad Sales
  • Brainstorm and provide copy for marketing initiatives, including key launches, partnerships, email blasts, and press releases
  • Collaborate with Merch Design team on product creative and copy
  • Revise drafts of Merch marketing to ensure brand consistency
  • Provide punch-ups for Ad copy for podcasts as needed
What You'll Bring To The Table:
  • A portfolio or reel that demonstrates 2-3 years of experience writing in a comedy space, ideally for podcasts or other episodic formats
  • Experience with stage production featuring a live audience, as producer, crew, performer, and/or digital/social media creation
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • A comedy background, ability to brainstorm, receive critique, and iterate quickly
  • A keen understanding of branding and how to apply it without being a corporate drone
  • Experience in working in news, entertainment, and comedy content
  • Understand working on production with other writers, producers, and hosts
Pay and Perks: This position is covered under the Writers Guild of America East Collective Bargaining Agreement and the salary for this role is $90,000. In addition to your salary, we also offer full-time employees excellent benefits, including:
