Summer Pest Control information

What is a summer pest control job?

A summer pest control job typically involves working for a pest management company during the busy summer months to help control and eliminate pests such as insects, rodents, and other unwanted animals from homes and businesses. Employees in these roles may perform inspections, apply chemical or natural pest treatments, and educate clients on prevention methods. This seasonal position is popular among students and those looking for temporary work, as it provides hands-on experience and often includes outdoor activity.

What are some common challenges faced by summer pest control technicians, and how can I prepare for them?

Summer pest control technicians often work outdoors in varying weather conditions and may encounter physically demanding tasks, such as crawling in tight spaces or lifting heavy equipment. Additionally, dealing with insects or rodents requires attention to safety protocols and proper use of chemicals. To prepare, familiarize yourself with personal protective equipment, stay hydrated, and develop good communication skills to educate clients about prevention and treatment plans. Adaptability and a strong work ethic are key to thriving in this fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a summer pest control technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Summer Pest Control Technician, you need a basic understanding of pest biology, safe chemical handling, and usually a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with pest management tools, application equipment, and, in many cases, state-issued pesticide applicator certification is required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and customer service skills help technicians educate clients and work efficiently in diverse environments. These skills and qualifications are vital to ensure safe, effective pest control while maintaining client trust and regulatory compliance.

Job description

Hey how are you?

First off let us introduce ourselves. We're EnviroGuard, a family owned and operated Pest Control company. We started in 2015 with a vision to create a great experience for each and every one of our customers, as we keep their homes "pest free". EnviroGuard is young and growing quickly, so we are looking for individuals who are hungry for personal growth. As we grow there is plenty of room for team members to expand their role and climb within the company. So come be a part of our team, and join us on our journey as we set out to do something great!

So I bet your thinking "I don't know a thing about killing bugs" We don't care! If you are ready to hustle and learn, then we will teach you everything you need to know about pest control. We will help you get your licensing through the state if you do not already have it.

A big part of your job is dealing with customers, so enthusiasm and liking people is a MUST! As a service professional you will be required to treat residential homes, interior and exterior which will require customer interaction.

To become a part of our team, please send in a copy of your resume. If you are brave add a personal touch. We want people who will add to our culture. If you're contacted for an interview, think of it as meeting a new friend for the first time.

Job Overview and Responsibilities

  • We're going to give you your own truck. (Okay, it's not actually YOUR truck. It's ours, but we'll let you drive it.)
  • You'll be treating residential homes with Pest Control products (we will train you how).
  • You'll be talking to your customers off and on throughout the day. These will be YOUR customers and you'll be responsible for treating them with a great experience!
  • The structure of your day will change (e.g. cancelled appointments, added appointments), so you'll need to think on your feet and be flexible at all times. We can be flexible with your schedule/time off when needed!

Qualifications

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Clean driving record
  • High school or equivalent
  • 21 years of age or older to be on our insurance.
  • Able to pass a background check (you will be entering customer's homes)
  • Ready to work hard and willing to learn
  • Enthusiastic, likable, and able to hold a conversation

The Scoop

  • We are currently looking for full-time employees.
  • Commission for sales, but sales not required.
  • Growth potential as we promote from within.
  • If you are not currently licensed, you'd be paid $14/hour plus bonuses for each house you complete. With every pest certification you receive, your hourly pay will increase. We will give you more information on how you can obtain various pest control licenses.
  • Monday-Friday. A typical shift is 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
  • You will also have plenty of opportunity for overtime with our busy summer hours.
