Job description

The Georgia Department of Defense is looking to add an Instructor to our STARBASE program.

Peach State STARBASE (PSS) is primarily located at the Clay National Guard Center in Marietta, Georgia, and provides exciting, dynamic and interesting Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) lessons and activities, primarily to at-risk students from selected Title I public schools in the north Atlanta metro area, in both direct support and as adjunctive instruction to their regular school curriculum. PSS currently hosts up to 800 student slots during the school year and approximately 50 day campers during the summer months, with another 400-600 in STARBASE community outreach events.

Instructional:

  • Instruct 5th & 6th grade level classes in science, math, engineering, aerospace, and other STARBASE topics from prepared lesson plans to established standards in a fast-paced, high energy atmosphere
  • Work with other STARBASE instructors to model and teach directly and by inference high levels of cooperation and communication between team members
  • Promote and present a positive view of good citizenship, general educational goals, higher education, the military, and the work force
  • Become proficient to a high level with and demonstrate the ability to effectively teach 3D CAD programs, 3D printer technologies, digital based scientific instrumentation, tablet based teaching tools, flight simulation, drone/quadcopter technologies, model rocketry, and all other disciplines, technologies, techniques and modalities contained in both the DoD STARBASE curriculum and location based lesson plans and activities
  • Create an positive learning environment in the classroom, through effective use of teaching techniques, and ability-based presentations
     

Administrative:

  • Administer, grade, and evaluate various tests and surveys
  • Give public presentations of the STARBASE program to school audiences, and conduct various pre- and post-academy operations
  • Assist other STARBASE staff members in physical security of assigned spaces and facilities
  • Assists other staff members in inventorying, indexing, ordering, and storing supplies, equipment and materials
  • Assists other staff members in maintaining good orderliness and cleanliness of STARBASE spaces and facilities;

Professional:

  • Maintains all certifications/licensure required to teach assigned subjects
  • Attends internal and external educational programs and professional meetings that meet the requirements for continuing education in the assigned specialty area
  • Reads professional literature and translates complex or technical information into a meaningful format that may be understood by others
  • All other duties as assigned
