Summer Camp Staff

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Position Type: Temporary, 2-month Staff

Reports to: Either Director of Preschool Auxiliary Programming or

Head of Auxiliary Programs, leading K-8

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION:

The Summer role is the facilitator within the Summer Camp age division in order to ensure the program is running as scheduled. The Staff member is responsible for providing a safe, caring and enriching environment for the children enrolled in the Summer Camp Program. The staff member will follow the themed activities and help students develop and strengthen academic, physical, and social skills through fun collaborative interaction.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure activities are planned for students and incorporate all Summer Camp Staff in contributing to student activities in roles such as planning and leading the activities and interacting with the students during the activities.
  • The lead will document the activities with photos to provide to the summer camp administration.
  • Promotes good habits for the purpose of improving the quality of the student's outcome and encouraging student development.
  • Facilitates the daily summer operations of the program for the purpose of ensuring student and program success.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the Summer Camp classroom.
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing camp rules and procedures regarding student behavior and participation and/or providing a safe, respectful and positive learning environment.
  • Each staff member is responsible for obtaining the daily items needed to facilitate the Summer Camp program. This includes the roster, the iPad, emergency bag, and walkie talkies.
  • Ensure a warm, caring, and stimulating environment for children enrolled in the Summer Camp program in an effort to create a positive and enriching Summer Camp experience.
  • Keep consistent headcounts on all children present in Summer Camp and constant awareness of each childโ€™s location (restroom, playground, enrichment clubs/camps, etc.).
  • Document and report any moderate and major behavioral incidents and/or injuries to Auxiliary Programs Director using Clinic, Accident and Incident reports. Please allow only Auxiliary Programs Director or Summer Camp Lead to communicate with parents on incidents.
  • Consistently monitor and supervise children under the care of Summer Camp Program, maintaining โ€œline of sightโ€ with any children located both inside and outside of designated Summer Camp areas.
  • Assist summer camp team leaders in conducting all student activities (arts and crafts projects, indoor/outdoor games, teacher directed games, etc). Participate in creating and leading various student activities.
  • Actively participate in daily sign-in/out processes and dismissal/carpool procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean environment which includes janitorial duties necessary to maintain the cleanliness of the school facility inside and outside of designated Summer Camp areas.
  • Adhere to the policies as stated in the St. Benedictโ€™s Handbook, Summer Camp policies and procedures addendum, and policies outlined in subsequent St. Benedictโ€™s training and meetings.
  • Attend staff meetings and assigned online training as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum high school degree
  • Prior childcare experience preferred
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate age appropriate, enriching activities.
  • Supervise youth and present positive role modeling through all interactions with program participants.
  • Keep confidence, loyalties and practice extreme professionalism.
  • Reliable and dependable.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet program staffing and planning needs.
  • Exercise mature judgement and sound decision making.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully both orally and in writing.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred but not required.
  • Learn, follow, and enforce St. Benedictโ€™s guidelines related to internal policies.
  • Ability to sit or stand continuously for up to 5 hours

Open positions are 10am-6pm and 2pm - 6pm. Camp starts June 1st - July 24th and is closed the week of June 29 - July 3 for the 4th of July holiday.
