Job description

Position Summary/Objective:

The Manufacturing Engineer develops, implements, validates, and improves manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, layouts, and production methods. This position combines traditional Manufacturing Engineering and Industrial Engineering responsibilities and supports assigned products from process development through production launch and ongoing production support.

The Manufacturing Engineer works with Design Engineering, Program Management, Quality, Production, Equipment Support, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers to ensure manufacturing processes meet safety, quality, capacity, and cost requirements.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
  1. Develop, implement, validate, maintain, and improve manufacturing processes for new and existing products. Responsibilities include:
    • Participate in product and design reviews to identify manufacturing risks, equipment needs, assembly concerns, and improvement opportunities.
    • Develop and implement manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, automation, production layouts, and supporting systems.
    • Plan and support prototype builds, process validations, capability studies, capacity analysis, line balancing, and production launches.
    • Develop and maintain Process Flows, PFMEAs, Work Instructions, process parameters, and manufacturing inputs for APQP, PPAP, Control Plans, and capacity reporting.
    • Support production by resolving processes, equipment, tooling, quality, scrap, downtime, and capacity concerns while leading corrective actions and continual-improvement activities.
    • Communicate manufacturing risks, project status, timing concerns, resource needs, and recommendations to management and project teams.
  2. Serve as the primary engineer for assigned programs or production areas and provide backup support for projects assigned to other Manufacturing Engineers.
Education, and/or Experience:
  1. Bachelorโ€™s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  2. Equivalent manufacturing experience may be considered.
  3. Three to five years of related manufacturing, process-development, equipment, automation, or industrial engineering experience preferred.

Preferred:

  1. Knowledge of plastic assembly processes, equipment, tooling, fixtures, production layouts, capacity planning, and process validation for automotive electronics.
  2. Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEA, Control Plans, Work Instructions, capability studies, and run-at-rate activities.
  3. Ability to read engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, and technical documents.
  4. Experience with Inventor 3D modeling software, Microsoft Office, and manufacturing data analysis.
  5. Strong project-management, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively with internal departments, customers, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers.
Supervision:

May act as lead on some projects and guide other engineers and technicians.
