Position Details
The Department of Nursing in the College of Natural and Health Sciences at The University of Tampa has an opening for a full time Nursing Skills and Simulation Lab (NSSL) technician. This position will require medical and technical expertise in the operation and maintenance of patient simulators in a clinical setting. This 12-month staff position, reports to the College Dean, and the Director/ Chair of Nursing in consultation with the Nursing Skills/Simulation Lab Director.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical and operational support of simulators, computers, audio-visual and other NSSL equipment to all faculty and instructional staff
  • Assemble/disassemble, operate, and clean equipment, furniture, instruments, props, simulators, and all accessories for all Nursing skills and simulation Laboratory (NSSL) activities.
  • Prepare practice medications, room props, equipment and other resources as required for all NSSL activities
  • Re-set room and equipment during and after each activity
  • Inspect and maintain all simulators and equipment to ensure safe operation and effective performance of simulators
  • Operate, test, and troubleshoot all audiovisual, healthcare devices, simulators, and other equipment that is utilized in the NSSL
  • Maintain the appearance of all lab and clinical space in NSSL
  • Support and assist faculty in NSSL activities
  • Set up and assist with tours and other publicity as needed
  • Monitor inventory of medical equipment, simulators and disposable medical supplies
  • Inventory and stock the Pyxis as needed
  • Report equipment, inventory, and simulation needs to the director of the NSSL
  • Keep storage areas orderly and stocked according to par levels
  • Respectful communication skills (written and oral) to support interactions with faculty, learners, and staff

Physical Requirements:
  • Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 30 pounds routinely to move objects.

Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in healthcare preferred such as EMT, military medic, CNA
  • Associate degree in a science or technology related field, preferred; experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Ability to understand and operate most equipment found in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely.
  • Knowledge of the features and capabilities of basic multimedia equipment, including video equipment.
