Summer Internships With Housing Stipend information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a Summer Internship with a Housing Stipend, and why are they important?

To excel in a Summer Internship with a Housing Stipend, candidates generally need a solid academic background in their field of study, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to learn. Familiarity with industry-specific tools, basic office software, and sometimes introductory certifications relevant to the role are commonly required. Standout interns demonstrate initiative, adaptability, effective communication, and teamwork in diverse environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for contributing meaningfully, making the most of the learning opportunity, and adapting to a new living and working setting.

What are some common challenges faced by summer interns who receive a housing stipend, and how can they be managed?

One common challenge for summer interns with a housing stipend is finding affordable and suitable accommodation within the stipend budget, especially in high-cost cities. Interns may also need to navigate unfamiliar neighborhoods and manage living independently for the first time. To address these challenges, it’s helpful to start the housing search early, connect with other interns to share resources or split costs, and seek guidance from the employer’s HR or internship coordinator. Many employers offer recommendations or partner with local housing providers, so taking advantage of these resources can ease the transition.

What are summer internships with housing stipend?

Summer internships with a housing stipend are temporary work programs, typically lasting 8-12 weeks during the summer, that provide students or recent graduates with practical experience in their field of interest. Along with a salary or hourly wage, these internships offer a housing stipend, which is a set amount of money to help cover accommodation costs for interns who need to relocate. This benefit helps make internships more accessible to students who might otherwise be unable to afford living away from home.

Job description

Seasonal Emergency Veterinarian
Fairfield Animal Hospital | Kelowna, BC
Summer Contract Opportunity | July-September | 2-4 Month Commitment

Looking for a summer adventure with high-level ER medicine, a seasoned team, and one of the most beautiful destinations in Canada?

Fairfield Animal Hospital is seeking experienced Emergency Veterinarians for a seasonal summer contract opportunity in Kelowna, British Columbia. This role is ideal for veterinarians who enjoy emergency medicine and want the flexibility of a short-term commitment while spending the summer in the heart of the Okanagan Valley.

Our hospital is historically busiest during the summer months. We are fully staffed during our lower season, but summer demand creates the perfect opportunity for experienced ER doctors to join us for 2-4 months and make a meaningful impact.

This role requires a minimum of 2+ years of emergency medicine experience, including emergency surgery. Candidates must be comfortable working independently in ER settings and performing surgical procedures. This is not a new graduate or restricted license mentorship position.

Why This Seasonal Opportunity Stands Out

Flexible Summer Contract

  • 2-4 month commitment (ideal timing: June-September)
Typically 2-3 daytime shifts per week
Additional overnight shifts may be available for those interested

Competitive Compensation

  • Starting at $95+/hour CAD (higher for strong ER experience)
Licensing fees covered for those committing to a minimum 2-month contract

Housing + Transportation Support

  • Fully furnished housing accommodations available and covered for contract veterinarians
Hospital vehicle available for use during your stay
  • Other transportation costs may be covered for temporary relocation

About Fairfield Animal Hospital

  • 24-hour emergency hospital with a highly collaborative team environment
Strong emergency medicine team and experienced clinicians
Exceptional support staff with many long-tenured technicians
Strong teamwork and communication across all roles

Spend Your Summer in Kelowna

Often called the "Napa Valley of Canada," Kelowna offers an unbeatable summer lifestyle with lakes, beaches, wineries, hiking, paddleboarding, boating, and endless sunshine.

Whether you're looking for a temporary escape from routine, exploring a new place for the season, or simply want to practice great medicine somewhere people vacation on purpose-this is the opportunity.

Licensing

If you are currently licensed in a U.S. state, we may be able to secure a temporary BC license covering up to 30 shifts per calendar year, which fits this seasonal contract well.

Temporary licensing typically takes 2-3 weeks, and our team will help guide the process.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as an emergency veterinarian
Proven experience performing emergency surgical procedures
Ability to practice without a restricted license
Strong ER confidence and ability to work independently
Team-oriented mindset and strong clinical judgment

If you're looking for a seasonal ER role with housing included and a summer location that feels like a vacation, we'd love to connect.
