POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Aquatics, and the Aquatics coordinator, the Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being, and enjoyment of all aquatics programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
โ€ข Ensure a safe environment within a given aquatics area by maintaining a high level of alertness, conducting area patrols, and localized emergency assistance.
โ€ข Ensures that pool policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed, also, warns swimmers of improper activities or danger.
โ€ข Actively work to prevent incidents related to aquatic programming and areas.
โ€ข Serve as a certified responder at a given YMCA location and actively administer first aid or other emergency procedures. Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
โ€ข Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and able to use. Assists other lifeguards in cleaning the pool, related facilities, equipment, performing water tests and record on daily log sheets.
โ€ข Grow the water safety skills of program participants and provide individual and/or group instruction as needed.
โ€ข Provide participants with a fun and safe atmosphere that fosters learning and personal development of the YMCAs core values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS:
โ€ข Be 16 years of age with a valid Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard certification.
โ€ข Have had some sort of Lifeguard work experience.
โ€ข CPR, AED, and FIRST AID for the professional responder.
โ€ข Be able to complete a pre-work swim test, with show of skills, as a condition of employment
โ€ข Exhibit a strong sense of conviction and responsibility, while demonstrating sound decision-making skills.
โ€ข Knowledge of on-site protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies.
โ€ข Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services.
โ€ข Move around the work environment independently.
โ€ข Required to sit, stand, or reach for extended periods of time.
โ€ข Communicate via computer, multi-line phone, and smartphone.
