GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Performs skilled work in maintaining, operating, and repairing of all campus buildings and facilities.  Inspect, repair, install, and maintain physical facilities requiring skilled mechanical and trade work.  Requires a good well-rounded working knowledge in all fields such as electrical, carpentry, welding, plumbing etc. Performs work in the inspection, repair, construction and documentation of all work, systems, and hazardous conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Have general computer knowledge and ability to navigate and implement our web based work order system.
  • Perform preventative and general repairs to new/existing installations on campus.
  • Troubleshoot and repair plumbing malfunctions.
  • Repair windows, doors, screens, floor coverings, drywall, and painted surfaces.
  • Maintain roof and gutter systems in the fall and assist with all summer dormitory repairs.
  • Construct and build concrete forms and basic cabinetry needs in all buildings.
  • Repair building lighting systems, drain and sewer cleaning.
  • Respond daily to safety and emergency situations regarding students, faculty, and staff.
  • Keep all other engineers and campus community informed of work being performed that may impact their living, teaching, or work area.                           
  • May lead or instruct other workers as required.
  • Ability to work with outside contractors following all University procedures and reporting procedures.
  • Operate hand and power tools in a skilled manner; fabricate material and equipment.
  • Plumbing experience is preferred.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

Perform other related duties as required by the Lead Engineer, Assistant Director of Facilities Management or Director of Facilities Management.

JOB SCOPE:

The job operates within established parameters; however the individual is responsible for making   recommendations and having input on decisions that relate directly to their area of expertise.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years of overall related facilities working experience.
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS:

  • Communicates with students, faculty, staff and the public appropriate to the age of the individual served.
  • Builds on basic learning and carries it from one situation to another.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills in problem solving and decision-making.
  • Asks questions and seeks assistance.
  • Takes responsibility to eliminate the source of problems.
  • Demonstrates confidentiality regarding information pertaining to all students, faculty and staff.
  • Maintains proper appearance and personal conduct for the employee’s particular job.
  • Uses effective communication skills taking into consideration body language, filters, listening, paraphrasing, and questions with customers of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to interpret and follow written schematics and blueprints.
  • Good communication and customer service skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse campus population.
  • Able to complete a University Drivers Safety Course as well as other OSHA required training programs.
  • Comfortable working at heights of up to 50 ft. using ladders scaffolds and high lifts.
  • Able to work in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, crouch frequently for prolonged periods.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exposure to varied indoor and outdoor working and weather conditions on a regular basis.
  • May be required to work weekends or overtime when needed.
