Job description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee, performs clerical and receptionist duties and maintains the physical environment of the area. Assures that all registration requirements for Emergency Room Encounters and Inpatient Admissions are accurate and completed. Responsible for capturing all financial and demographic information from Emergency Room Encounters and Inpatient Admission. Assures there is a physical presence at the Emergency Entrance at all times. Provides administrative support to the Registered Nurse and/or the attending Physician as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. Proficient with Microsoft office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Able to learn new equipment and procedures
  3. Clear, comprehensible, and concise oral and written communications including correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation required
  4. Complete confidentiality of patient and business records required.
  5. Experience with Hospital Registration preferred.
  6. One-year clerical or secretarial experience in a health care setting. Must demonstrate good organizational skills as well as proficient grammar, punctuation and spelling.
  7. Commitment to work evening, weekends, holidays and summer hours.
  8. Ability to deal with all members of the public in a patient, courteous and tactful manner even during stressful situations.
  9. Ability to work independently without constant supervision and to initiate work on projects which need to be done accurately and efficiently.
  10. CPR "heart saver" course certification prior to or with-in 30 days of starting.
  11. Ability to use computers: Able to learn and use electronic health record program(s) like Cerner to enter admissions, discharges, and transfers (ADT), input acuity levels, daily reports, Medevac and patient travel into computer system as necessary.

WORKING CONDITIONS: This role is based in a busy nursing station where frequent interruptions and emergencies are common. Must be able to see, hear, speak, walk, sit, bed, kneel, and lift and carry up to 20 pounds with or without accommodation. Also serves as a communications clerk/receptionist for BBAHC as needed.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: This job description covers all fulltime/part-time/call-in positions, and hours of work and days are on a rotating shift. Attendance in accordance with the BBAHC Attendance policy is a job requirement.
