Job description

Meadow Breeze Day Camp is looking to fill positions for our 8-week summer camp programs, grades Kindergarten to 11th grade. LCA is a grade 6-12 independent Christian school located in Lexington, MA. Since 1966, Meadow Breeze Day Camp at LCA has been offering an exceptional traditional day camp for kids of all ages.
As a Summer Camp Head Counselor, you will be a key leader in creating a positive and supportive environment for both campers and fellow counselors. This position requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication, and the ability to oversee and coordinate various aspects of the camp program. The Head Counselor plays a pivotal role in ensuring a memorable and enriching experience for everyone at the camp.
Responsibilities:
Supervision and Leadership:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of camp counselors.
  • Oversee and coordinate daily activities, ensuring proper staffing levels for each program.
  • Camper Well-being:
    • Monitor the well-being of campers, addressing any concerns or issues promptly.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere that promotes personal growth and positive relationships.
  • Activity Coordination:
    • Collaborate with activity specialists and other counselors to ensure a well-rounded and engaging camp program.
    • Assist in organizing camp-wide activities.
  • Conflict Resolution:
    • Mediate and resolve conflicts among campers and your camp counselors
    • Provide support and guidance to counselors in managing interpersonal challenges.
  • Communication:
    • Act as a liaison between camp leadership, counselors, and parents.
  • Emergency Response:
    • Be familiar with and adhere to all camp safety protocols.
    • Coordinate and lead emergency drills and responses for your group.
  • Counselor Support:
    • Provide mentorship and support to counselors, assisting with problem-solving and professional development.
    • Conduct regular check-ins with counselors to assess their well-being and address any concerns.
  • Positive Reinforcement:
    • Recognize and celebrate the achievements and positive contributions of both campers and counselors.
    • Foster a culture of encouragement and appreciation.
Qualifications:
  • College graduate or teacher (with 1+ years of experience preferred)
  • Previous experience as a camp counselor or in a leadership role within a camp setting.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly and effectively in a dynamic camp environment.
  • Enthusiasm for working with children and creating a positive camp community.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certification (recommended)
  • Complete a CORI background check
  • Attend all training sessions
