Job description

Job Summary

The role of Recreation Supervisor is responsible for organizing, planning and providing supervision of recreational activities, lifeguarding, recreational facilities, events of a special nature, and other related programs.

Primary Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Daily operation of the Outdoor Pursuits areas including, but not limited to the summer camp activities, towel/retail area, playground, sports courts, pool areas, waterslide and cabanas
  • Supervise associates within the department, delegate opening and closing tasks, critically think and troubleshoot issues, and interact with members/guests in a positive manner
  • Works collaboratively with other departments; confers regularly with other supervisors and managers.
  • Ensure associates are following proper procedures and Watersound Club standards
  • Assist in monthly in-service lifeguard training and certifications
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures, and standards
  • Repairing and/or reporting maintenance and cleanliness issues in a timely manner and follow up as necessary until corrected
  • Maintain knowledge of POS system and member-based system; assist as needed
  • Anticipate member and guests’ needs and respond promptly to all inquiries and concerns
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of recreation areas at all times
  • Ensure all equipment is in proper working order
  • Assist with inventory
  • Create and monitor member and guest programming and events monthly
  • Monitor member, guest, and employee safety at all times
  • Manage daily schedule and lifeguard rotations
  • Assists with lifeguarding and recreation duties as needed
  • Assist Manager of Outdoor Pursuits as needed
  • All other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels and to communicate with guests about job related needs 
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in basic English 
  • Experience in a private club/resort setting preferred 
  • Computer experience including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) 
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required (may obtain hire)
  • Lifeguard certification (may be obtained upon hire)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Detail oriented and thorough  
  • Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of guests 
  • Ability to perform consistent work to the highest of standards 
  • Ability to interact with guests in a pleasant friendly way 
  • Knowledge of POS systems and member-based systems 
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Office  
  • Ability to think critically and troubleshoot issues independently  
  • Must have good social skills to work efficiently with both adults and children, leadership capabilities and communicate well within an individual and group setting 
  • Ability to maintain facilities and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure manner. 
  • Ability to perform work as directed in an efficient, effective, safe, and timely manner. 
  • Ability to respond appropriately to changing situations 
  • Basic knowledge of recreational activities  
  • Ability to pass StarGuard Elite certification course

Physical Demands

  • Work in both indoor and outdoor
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Prolonged periods of standing, physical activity, including but not limited to, bending, stooping, and kneeling
  • Frequent precision work with hands

Working Conditions

  • Primarily outdoor, occasionally indoor
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind
  • Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and adaptability
  • May involve interactions with children, adults, and participants with special needs
  • Possible exposure to a somewhat noisy environment
