Looking for a meaningful job where you can make a difference? Join the YMCA as a Summer Youth Program Bus Driver and help transport kids to fun, enriching field trips and program sites-all while creating a safe and positive environment.
What You'll Do:
  • Safely drive a school bus to parks, events, and field trips
  • Perform daily vehicle safety checks and basic maintenance tracking
  • Ensure bus rules are followed and promote a safe environment
  • Communicate with staff and support youth programs as needed
Schedule:
  • 20-40 hours per week
  • Hours vary based on program needs

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  1. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  2. Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
  3. Ability to safely and efficiently operate a loaded passenger bus
  4. Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance including tire pressure, checking oil and water levels

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Minimum one school year of work experience as a school bus driver and be a current Bellingham School District employee.
  2. At least 21 years of age or older
  3. Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (bus).
  4. Emotional, social, and physical capability to work with children and other adults in a group setting.
  5. Good health, enthusiasm, and above standard character.
  6. Must have, or be in the process of obtaining the following:
    1. Valid Washington State CDL Driver's License
    2. Current Health Exam Card per CDL requirements
    3. Negative TB Test
    4. HIV, Bloodborne Pathogen training
    5. Standard First Aid Certification
    6. Infant/Child & Adult CPR Certification
    7. 5 Year Driving Abstract, submitted annually

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT
  1. Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
  2. Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds and some standing and walking.
  3. Working environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  4. Ability to safely drive a bus for long periods of time.
  5. Ability to respond to emergency situations.
  6. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards
    related to the activity.
