What are Summer Associates?

Summer Associates are typically law or business students who work at a law firm, investment bank, or consulting firm during the summer break. This position is usually designed as an internship for students to gain practical experience, learn about the firm’s culture, and potentially secure a full-time job offer after graduation. Summer Associates often participate in real client work, networking events, and training sessions. The role provides valuable insight into the industry and helps students build professional connections.

What Is a Summer Associate Job?

Your job duties as a legal summer associate include drafting motions and other legal documents, practicing in mock trials, observing or performing litigation alongside an experienced lawyer in court, and conducting legal research.
