Job description

The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities.

This is a Student Co-Op position located onsite in Auburn Hills, MI.  This position supports the supply chain management activities to the Senior Global Commodity Manager for Semiconductors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Global Commodity Managers (GCMs) with global data collection, validation, and analysis to inform sourcing and negotiation activities.
  • Assist with RFI/RFQ events by gathering quotations, consolidating technical responses, and preparing clear comparison summaries.
  • Prepare and organize negotiation and contract documentation with strong attention to detail.
  • Coordinate with regional and cross‑functional teams (engineering, finance, operations) to support commodity initiatives such as cost reduction, P2P improvements, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Support supplier performance reviews, including assessments, QBR preparation, and follow‑up on open items with suppliers and regional teams.
  • Contribute to procurement benchmarking and help implement best practices that improve efficiency and standardization.
  • Monitor supply market trends and support forecasting and specification aggregation for strategic planning.
  • Assist with contingency planning and communication during supply disruptions (e.g., semiconductor‑related events).
  • Identify and help optimize manual or repetitive processes by improving data workflows, reporting formats, and tools used by the commodity team. 

Requirements:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Engineering, Business, or other relevant fields.
  • Candidate must be able to work onsite in Auburn Hills, MI
  • Able to work 20–32 hours per week during the Fall and Winter semesters while maintaining full‑time student status (12+ credits for undergraduates; program requirements for graduate students).
  • Able to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast‑paced, cross‑functional environment
  • Candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Products (Office 365, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Project)
  • Candidate must have result driven mindset in a complex environment
