Job description

Job Title:
Theatre and Media Arts, FT Faculty, CFS Professorial
Posting End Date: September 1, 2026

Position Start Date: August 2, 2027
Required Degree:
MFA in Acting or related discipline; or PhD in Theatre or related discipline with a specific focus on acting performance and practice.
The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience:
  • 3+ years experience in teaching and mentoring students at the college or university level. We also are interested in reviewing applications from candidates who have accomplished notable teaching outside of school settings.
  • Exceptional teaching ability, with core competency in Acting for stage and screen and a secondary focus one or more of the following areas: Voice, Directing, and/or Musical Theatre.
  • Professional experience in acting performance.
  • Substantial and promising record of theatre directing preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Rank will be commensurate with experience.

Duties/Expectations:
  • Teach 5 acting courses (up to 15 credit hours) across fall and winter semesters and 1 additional course (up to 3 credit hours) either spring or summer term within the Acting and Music Dance Theatre BFA programs.
  • Pursue ongoing scholarly or creative activity, with expectations for engagement and contribution to the field at regional, national, and international levels.
  • Direct productions on the BYU Theatre season.
  • Mentor students to ensure academic success, and professional and personal growth.
  • Commit to the AIMS of BYU education and a commitment to student-centered learning.
  • Contribute to departmental service through administrative roles.
