Position: Summer Program Lifeguard

Department: Summer Program โ€“ Sally Johnston

Status: June 12-July 24, 2026 (No program June 19 and July 3)

The ACS Summer Program is seeking a responsible and attentive Lifeguard to supervise recreational swimming and ensure a safe and positive environment for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. The Lifeguard will work collaboratively with another lifeguard to monitor students during daily swim periods, enforce safety procedures, and respond to emergencies as needed. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, structured, and enjoyable aquatics experience for all campers. The Lifeguard will maintain constant surveillance of students in and around the pool, communicate expectations clearly, and model safe behavior. The role requires strong attention to detail, quick decision-making, and the ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.


Hours:
Mondayโ€“Friday, 12:00โ€“6:00 p.m.
June 12โ€“July 24, 2026 (No program on June 19 and July 3)


Responsibilities include:

ยท Maintaining constant and active supervision of students in the pool and surrounding areas.

ยท Enforcing pool rules and water safety procedures consistently and fairly.

ยท Recognizing and responding quickly and effectively to emergencies

ยท Administering first aid, CPR, and/or AED support as needed.

ยท Initiating the aquatics emergency action plan when required.

ยท Communicating expectations and safety guidelines clearly to students.

ยท Completing accident and incident reports accurately and in a timely manner.

ยท Inspecting pool facilities, equipment, and water conditions for safety and cleanliness.

ยท Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe pool environment.

ยท Assisting with daily setup, closing procedures, and securing the facility.

ยท When pool is closed, fill in where needed.

ยท Collaborating with program staff to support student safety and positive behavior.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

ยท Current Lifeguard Certification (or willingness to obtain certification prior to June 1.)

ยท Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.

ยท High school or college student preferred.

ยท Previous lifeguard experience (approximately 6 months preferred but not required).

ยท Ability to remain alert, attentive, and calm in emergency situations.

ยท Strong communication and teamwork skills.

ยท Understands and appreciates the mission and philosophy of The Avery Coonley School and Summer Program.
