Position Title: Facilities Maintenance Tech

Reports To: Maintenance Manager

Sugar Foods manufactures and packages croutons, tortilla chips, crispy toppings, as well as cheese-based toppings. Additionally, Sugar Foods packages a variety of items including sugar, sweeteners, powdered creamer, and dried fruits and nuts.

Facilities Maintenance Position Summary

This role is responsible to performs skilled maintenance, repairs, adjustments, and minor construction work in the trades to ensure that facilities are properly maintained. Train less-skilled employees in facilities maintenance team. This role will assist Facilities Management Services (FMS) management in planning work and project management. Additional job functions may include carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, energy management, fire and life safety and keys/security systems.

Job Responsibilities in Facilities Maintenance

  • Perform preventative maintenance on building systems, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and control systems, and related components; test system competency and component devices and evaluates performance.
  • Assist FMS management in planning and scheduling preventative maintenance work and recommend approaches to preventative maintenance programs.
  • Repair and maintain a variety of facilities systems, components and structures; repair building plumbing, low-voltage, and line voltage electric systems, door hardware, fire and life safety protective equipment/systems, sprinkler systems, sensors and related hardware and software.
  • Construct and maintain indoor/outdoor facilities, fans, lights and related items; conduct structural inspections for safety.
  • Maintain induction and air handling units; clean and inspect all equipment, complete filter changes, lubricate, maintain and service mechanical, refrigeration, and cooling systems.
  • Make all levels of adjustments to computerized control systems, such as for lighting or energy management systems, and troubleshoot control system problems.
  • Perform electronic recordkeeping related to preventative maintenance and repair so that FMS division makes the most efficient and effective use of computerized maintenance management and service request systems.
  • Track and close assigned work orders; may monitor work orders assigned to others and assist them in managing work orders.
  • Maintain appropriate records and reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to various weather conditions. May be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, noise and temperature extremes. Position involves frequent bending, standing, kneeling, climbing ladders, reaching below and above shoulders, and lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs. while performing job duties. Wrist, hand, and finger dexterity is required to operate various equipment and materials.


Qualifications / Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3+ years of experience in facilities maintenance, general repair, or a similar field
  • Experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building systems
  • Ability to use basic tools, power equipment, and follow safety procedures
  • Familiarity with maintenance software (CMMS) or digital work order systems is a plus
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs., climb ladders, and work in various indoor/outdoor conditions
  • Problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or with a team
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)

Preferred

  • Trade school certification or technical training in HVAC, electrical, or mechanical systems
  • Maintenance experience in a manufacturing or food production facility
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems
  • Forklift certification
  • Familiarity with food processing equipment, conveyors, mixers, chillers, compressors, etc.
  • Forklift certification
  • Understanding of HACCP and food safety regulations
