Job description

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing one-on-one support services to individuals age 16-24. The role includes assessing basic needs, identifying barriers, developing a service strategy to address those barriers, and coordinating services to prepare and secure living wage jobs with opportunities for advancement through clearly defined career paths.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the selection process and supervise Peer Mentor(s).
  • Update and maintain Buffalo Futures digital platform, including gathering "success stories" to highlight on the site.
  • Coordinate with partners to ensure information about community programs and resources are kept current.
  • Responsible for intake of HUB participants, assessing vocational and educational needs, and developing a service plan for each participant.
  • Acts as a liaison with workforce development, educational institutions, community stakeholders, human services, and local governmental agencies across the region.
  • Maintains a coaching log for each HUB participant.
  • Prepare regular, comprehensive reports on data related to program activities and outcomes to the HUB Director.
  • Ensure all records are accurate and up-to-date and submit reports to appropriate agencies and HUB Director.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships in the public, non-profit, and private sectors to connect participants to educational and career opportunities aligned with their interests and goals.
  • Works to engage aspiring young professionals by leveraging relationships with community partners, building a robust referral network connecting with potential employers, and to key stakeholders facilitating presentations.
  • Cultivate and develop relationships with representatives of higher education and other training institutions (i.e. community colleges, apprenticeship programs, certification programs) to understand programs, build strong referral systems, and help individuals successfully navigate post-secondary options.
  • Participate and coordinate community outreach activities, such as providing presentations to non-profit organizations, government agencies, probation/parole staff and agencies, schools, etc.
  • Follow procedures regarding recordkeeping, documentation, and maintaining case files.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Participate in community engagement functions related to program needs, which may occasionally require nights and weekends.
  • Must present a professional image in conduct, attitude, and attire.
  • Satisfactory completion of mandatory trainings.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree in related field.
  • One (1) year of experience working with individuals age 16-24
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with Salesforce or other CRM software preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong commitment in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and excellent computer skills and experience using a variety of social media platforms for outreach.
  • Understanding of the challenges that youth face (interrupted schooling, homelessness, system involvement, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and sustain relationship with people from diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Must maintain strong rapport with youth and young adults.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues and partners.
  • Ability to effectively manage time to work on multiple tasks in a high pressure/short deadline environment and must be able to adapt to changes in workload demand and priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be adaptable, enthusiastic, and willing to learn.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to sit at a desk for prolonged periods of time, with occasional walking and standing.
  • Must be able to read, write routine reports, and speak effectively with a diverse community.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have hand, finger coordination to type, data entry, organizing files, answering telephones.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms and move around the office to deliver documents, packages, or attend meetings in different areas.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds.
  • May require ability to travel, including overnight stays to attend conferences or other meetings.

Application Requirements:

  • Physical examination record or pass physical examination by a CAO physician
  • Valid NYS Driver's License and proof of motor vehicle insurance coverage
  • Completion of the following documents:
    • CAO Employment application
    • NYS SCR Clearance Form with acceptable clearance
    • Criminal Record Certification and free of criminal convictions of crimes against children (misdemeanor or felony)
    • Fingerprinting required.
    • Release for Reference Checks
