We are currently seeking a mid-career environmental professional/project manager to support our growing environmental services in Virginia. This position can be based in the Leesburg, Chantilly, or Richmond offices. Opportunities to work in other Hillis-Carnes' locations may also exist for the right candidate.
YOUR ROLE:
As a Project Manager/Senior Environmental Professional in the Environmental, Health & Safety department, you will directly play an integral role in the success of our organization and the ongoing development of your professional career. As part of this team, you will work in collaboration with our knowledgeable, dynamic staff on a wide variety of projects related to environmental due diligence, site investigation, and remediation.
Some key responsibilities will include:
  • Leading and overseeing various projects including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Phase II Subsurface Investigations, site characterization and remediation activities, hazardous materials surveys, and construction/ redevelopment oversight.
  • Managing and conducting fieldwork: field data collection, sampling and testing of soil, groundwater, soil gas, and building materials.
  • Preparing proposals, work plans, closure reports, and technical reports.
  • Mentoring and coordinating junior staff.
  • Working closely with clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Supporting local business development efforts.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, Earth/Physical Sciences, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in environmental consulting, preferably on projects similar to those described above.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team, producing high-quality accurate work.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advanced degree and/or licensure (PG, PE, CHMM, REM, CEM)
  • OSHA 40- Hour HAZWOPER certification
  • Asbestos and Lead inspector certifications
  • Prior Virginia Voluntary Remediation Program and/or Maryland/D.C. Voluntary Cleanup Program experience
  • Prior project management experience is preferred, but training will be provided to the right candidate.
