Job Title: Software Development Team Lead (CGI / 3D Simulation)
Location: Jacksonville, FL (Hybrid - 2 days remote) Need local only
Type: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire

Unreal Engine, Blender/Maya/3ds Max, Substance Painter, UV mapping, Python/C++ scripting, GIS tools (Global Mapper/QGIS/ArcGIS), 3D rendering, and team leadership.

About the Role

We are seeking a Software Development Team Lead (CGI / 3D Simulation) to join a growing software development company specializing in real-time 3D simulation environments used for railroad engineer training and certification.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for guiding a team of CGI developers and artists, managing project execution, and ensuring the delivery of visually rich and technically robust simulation environments. The ideal candidate will bring both technical depth and strong leadership skills, reporting directly to the Production Manager.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of real-time 3D simulation environments for training software.
  • Oversee creation of track networks and terrain using GIS and customer-provided data.
  • Manage 3D asset production for cities, landscapes, and interactive visual environments.
  • Coordinate cross-departmental project execution to meet quality, cost, and schedule targets.
  • Support and optimize CGI workflows to enhance performance, visual realism, and efficiency.
  • Mentor team members and promote best practices in CGI development and production.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of 3D environments and rendering pipelines.
  • Proficiency in Blender, or equivalent tools such as Autodesk Maya or 3ds Max.
  • Experience with Substance Painter, UV mapping, and Unreal Engine (Blueprints & Data Assets).
  • Scripting or programming experience in Python, C++, Perl, or JavaScript.
  • Hands-on experience with GIS platforms such as Global Mapper, QGIS, or ArcGIS.

Soft Skills:

  • Proven leadership and team management experience.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • A creative, hands-on problem solver with attention to detail and results.
