MSAD#17 is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of a Substance Misuse Counselor. This position will be at Oxford Hills Middle School (two campuses), as well as Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
TITLE: Substance Misuse Counselor
QUALIFICATIONS: Â Maine LADC licensure
Position to start 2026-27 school year
Certifications and experience in substance use/misuse issues; understanding of addictions; knowledge of public school environment; experience working with adolescents; experience with program development; excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively; understanding of confidentiality and applicable laws.
Goals:Â To promote student success, provide intervention services and respond to identified student or family needs around substance misuse
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists students in the area of substance misuse with intervention and counseling services that include, but are not limited to, assessing student needs, providing direct counseling services, working with families, and/or referring out to other agencies.
- Supports school counselors, classroom teachers, administration and nurses by providing educational awareness information on substance misuse issues.
- Communicates and collaborates with school counselors, social workers and administration on a regular basis.
- Works with health teachers on relevant curriculum development and delivery and facilitates classroom based curriculum.
- Collaborates with community resources to enhance programming and services.
- Gathers data from Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey (MIYHS) and other sources to develop appropriate 7-12 action plans.
- Serves as a member of the MTSS, PBIS, Attendance and Student Support Services Team/ Risk Review.
- Support staff through training, providing materials, and consultation throughout the year.
- Other duties as assigned.
