Department: Operations

Reports To: Head of Operations

Last Updated: August 20, 2026

Status: Full-Time, Exempt

SUMMARY

Cloth & Paper is looking for a Demand Planner to establish the forecasting function behind our purchasing decisions. Demand planning is a developing capability at Cloth & Paper, and this role will define the methodology, planning cadence, and reorder logic that support it, working with recently implemented planning tools. With a broad, fast-moving product assortment and a steady cadence of new product launches, we need someone who can translate market trends, sales velocity, and seasonality into clear, confident purchase order recommendations for our Procurement Manager. The scope spans our core e-commerce business as well as wholesale and event readiness and connects customersโ€™ bottom-up demand to the company's top-down financial targets. That ownership extends across the full product life cycle, including how products are classified by stage and velocity and how aging and discontinued inventory gets resolved. The role sits at the intersection of data analysis and market intuition, pairing disciplined forecasting with a real feel for the categories we sell into.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

โ— Own demand forecasting across the full product assortment and the entire product life cycle, defining the stage criteria used to classify where each product sits and the planning treatment that follows from it.

โ— Stand up the demand planning process end to end โ€” forecasting methodology, planning calendar, and reorder logic โ€” and configure our demand planning software to support it.

โ— Recommend when to reorder, how much to order, and how often for each product or product family, and deliver those recommendations directly to the Procurement Manager in a clear, actionable format.

โ— Monitor sell-through, inventory turns, and stockout/overstock risk on a weekly basis, flagging fast-movers for replenishment and routing slow-movers into the life cycle review.

โ— Incorporate the new product launch cadence into forecasts, including comparable-product analysis for items with no sales history.

โ— Forecast across channels and verticals, including wholesale and event readiness, and build the planning approach that scales with them.

โ— Track market and category trends (social platforms, competitor assortments, industry reports, seasonal patterns) and translate them into forward-looking demand signals.

โ— Partner with Product Development and Marketing to connect the dots across 360 launch plans, from marketing campaigns to events, and translate that programming into forward demand impact, flagging where a campaign is likely to outpace or undershoot the plan in time to adjust.

โ— Own the resolution of slow-moving, aging, and end-of-life inventory: run the recurring review that surfaces at-risk items, recommend the disposition (markdown, promotion, bundle, channel reallocation, or discontinuation), and drive the decision to closure with Merchandising, Marketing, and Procurement.

โ— Maintain safety stock and lead-time assumptions by vendor, updating them as actuals and vendor performance come in.

โ— Report on forecast accuracy and inventory health to the Head of Operations and continuously refine the approach based on results.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

โ— Comfort working with a large product assortment, frequent new product introductions, and promotional calendar; experience with limited-history/new-item forecasting is a plus.

โ— Strong analytical skills with the ability to structure a data set, build and stress-test a forecast, and explain the assumptions behind a recommendation. Hands-on experience with a demand planning platform such as Prediko, Inventory Planner, or Netstock is expected, and experience implementing or configuring one is strongly preferred.

โ— A genuine interest in social, seasonal, and competitive trends, paired with the ability to turn those signals into a numbers-based recommendation.

โ— Clear, confident communication skills, including the ability to present purchase recommendations to Marketing, Product, Procurement, and Operations leadership at a regular cadence.

โ— Systems-thinker who can trace a plan through to its demand impact across channels, and who is equally comfortable in a bottom-up demand build and a top-down financial target conversation.

โ— Direct experience working with ecommerce sales and inventory data โ€” Shopify specifically, or a comparable platform.

โ— Working knowledge of project and PO tracking tools such as GoodDay or Notion.

โ— Background in home goods, gifting, stationery, or a similarly trend-driven consumer category preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

โ— 3โ€“5 years of experience in demand planning, inventory planning, merchandise planning, or a closely

related supply chain role, ideally in ecommerce or retail.

โ— Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, analytics, or a related field preferred, or equivalent

experience.
