Introduction

The Business Services Charter Filing & Processing Unit\r\nis custodian of documents relating to the organization and ownership of many\r\ntypes of business entities that are required to file documents with the State.\r\nThese documents include charters for Maryland corporations and qualifications\r\nand registrations for foreign corporations. The unit is also the custodian of\r\nsecurity interest (UCC) filings.\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

The incumbent is responsible for handling service of process for the Department pursuant to Maryland Rules, Sections 2-124 and 3-124, and the Maryland Courts and Judicial Proceedings Code Annotated, Section 6-307. Additionally, the incumbent compiles documents in response to subpoenas for Department records and serves as the first-level resource for all inquiries regarding service of process.

POSITION DUTIES

Creates accounts and processes data from subpoena and work\r\norders checks for each subpoena, garnishments, foreclosures and summons served on\r\nthe Department, within 5 business days. Rejects summons and return to sender\r\nwhen not in order on a daily basis.\r\nEnter data from subpoena summons in the MBES database and\r\nmail out notices to the plaintiff and defendant within 14 business days.\r\nCreate affidavits upon request by customer. Responds to attorneys,\r\nparalegals and customers by phone & email regarding the status of their filing.\r\nUpdates information in the MBES database and file incoming\r\ndocuments with a copy of the summons. Tallies checks, and credit card receipts on\r\na daily basis. Generates a TSO report.\r\nPerforms various other duties as assigned; which may\r\ninclude but are not limited to supporting other terms when appropriate participates\r\nin training provided by management for any job duty deficiencies, regularly\r\nchecks and responds to emails and follows SDAT's Customer Service Policy.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. \r\nExperience: One year of experience performing clerical duties. \r\nNotes: \r\n1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours of education at an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience. \r\n2. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the required experience. \r\n3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n

The ideal candidate will possess one or more of the\r\nfollowing:\r\nExperience\r\nproviding excellent customer service both face-to-face and over the telephone.\r\nExperience\r\ndrafting, reviewing, and sending professional email correspondence.\r\nExperience\r\norganizing and filing documents systematically using a numerical system.\r\nExperience\r\nreviewing court documents and adhering to court deadlines.\r\nDemonstrated\r\nability to process a high volume of work efficiently and accurately.\r\n
