How do Subject Matter Experts typically collaborate with cross-functional teams in an organization?

Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) often work closely with cross-functional teams—such as product development, training, or IT—by providing specialized knowledge and insights that inform decision-making and project direction. SMEs are frequently called upon during key phases of projects to review content, clarify technical details, and ensure accuracy. Effective communication and adaptability are essential, as SMEs must translate complex concepts for non-experts and align their expertise with broader organizational goals. This collaborative approach not only supports successful project outcomes but also offers SMEs opportunities to expand their professional networks and influence within the organization.

What are Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)?
