Job description

The Construction Estimator is capable of collecting sub-contractor proposals and creating cost estimates and material takeoffs. The candidate must have an understanding of construction estimating principles, excellent analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with the project team to ensure accurate and competitive pricing. The Construction Estimator will be responsible for leading the estimating process from inception to completion; providing accurate cost estimates and pre-construction budgets to the Director of Construction or the Project Manager. Additionally, the estimator will be responsible for developing and maintaining a data base for historical proposals, cost estimates and design drawings. The key responsibilities for the estimator include:
  • Develop and manage the pre-construction budget and estimate through the estimate process
  • Conduct preliminary cost analysis and value engineering
  • Evaluate and analyze project documents, specifications, and plans
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Construction and sub-contractors to ensure accurate and competitive estimates/pricing
  • Manage subcontractor bidding and evaluating process
  • Conduct pre-bid site visits to assess field conditions and project feasibility
  • Provide support to project team during the construction phase
  • Continually update and maintain the estimating database

The qualified candidate should have a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, or related field or have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as an estimator. Additional qualifications include:
  • Ability to read and interpret conceptual drawings and construction plans and specifications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate effectively; written and orally in English
