Job description

Ford Motor Company, we believe freedom of movement drives human progress. We also believe in providing you with the freedom to define and realize your dreams. With our incredible plans for the future of mobility, we have a wide variety of opportunities for you to accelerate your career potential as you help us define tomorrow's transportation.

In this position...

As a Studio Design Engineer (AI & Generative Workflows), you will bridge the gap between visionary design and engineering reality by leveraging the next generation of computational tools. You won't just concept solutions; you will build the systems that optimize it. You will use vibe coding to rapidly prototype studio tools, utilize AI-driven 3D generation to accelerate surface scaffolding, and deploy autonomous agents to streamline the feasibility process. Your goal is to move the studio from traditional CAD process to an AI-augmented environment where the "emotive character" of a design is protected by intelligent, real-time engineering feedback.

You'll have...

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Computer Science with a focus on Design.
  • 3+ years of experience in complete vehicle layout/package, including Body and Trim.
  • 1+ years of experience in Catia V5 or 3DX.
  • Demonstrated experience in "Vibe Coding" (e.g., using Replit, Cursor, or LLMs to build functional tools/scripts without deep manual coding).
  • Familiarity with AI-3D Workflows: Experience with generative design tools or text-to-3D/image-to-3D pipelines.

Even better, you may have...

  • Agentic Workflow Experience: Demonstrated ability to build or use "Agents" (e.g., AutoGPT, CrewAI, or custom GPTs) to automate professional workflows.
  • Strong familiarity with legislative requirements and the ability to train/prompt AI models to check for compliance.
  • Experience in leading and presenting AI-generated design explorations to decision-making forums.
  • A "Hacker" mindset: A proven track record of finding unconventional ways to use new technology to solve old engineering bottlenecks.

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!

As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? Will your career be a deep dive into what you love, or a series of new teams and new skills? Will you be a leader, a changemaker, a technical expert, a culture builder...or all of the above? No matter what you choose, we offer a work life that works for you, including:
Immediate medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage
Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child care and more
Family building benefits including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, fertility treatments, and more
Vehicle discount program for employees and family members and management leases
Tuition assistance
Established and active employee resource groups
Paid time off for individual and team community service
A generous schedule of paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year's Day
Paid time off and the option to purchase additional vacation time.

This position is open to salary grades 7-8 and ranges from $86,600-$166,200.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.

What you'll do...

  • Architect AI Agents: Develop and deploy custom AI agents to automate the monitoring of Design Development Checklists, data pedigree, and property setup integrity.
  • Vibe Coding & Visual Scripting: Use natural language-based programming (vibe coding) to create bespoke Python scripts or macros within Catia/3DX that automate repetitive "Studio property" setups and manikin drops.
  • Generative 3D Scaffolding: Lead the development of Surface Scaffold files by integrating AI-assisted 3D modeling tools (e.g., Vizcom, Luma AI, or Generative CAD) to rapidly explore "what-might-be" scenarios before committing to formal A-surface.
  • Intelligent Feasibility: Lead the completion of studies within Design Feasibility Checkpoint Process by using legacy and predictive AI models to identify potential hardpoint or legislative conflicts earlier than traditional methods allow.
  • Augmented Integration: Lead the integration of A-surface with thematic and functional inputs, using AI to ensure the emotive character of the art is preserved while meeting strict engineering and attribute requirements.
  • Provocation & Optimization: Provide concept alternatives through generative design prompts, using AI to provoke new ways of reconciling thematic intent with program assumptions.
  • Data Orchestration: Manage the flow of data into and out of the studio using automated pipelines, ensuring the "data pedigree" is maintained via intelligent version control.
