Job description

The Assistant Dean for Graduate Enrollment Strategy and Operations serves as a senior strategic and operational leader for the Indiana University (IU) Indianapolis Graduate School and provides leadership for graduate enrollment management, operational planning, organizational effectiveness, and student-centered administrative services supporting graduate and professional education across the institution. Working closely with and under the strategic direction of the Vice Provost and Dean for Graduate Education, the Assistant Dean supports and operationalizes institutionally aligned graduate enrollment and operational strategies designed to advance graduate enrollment growth, student success, operational excellence, and organizational effectiveness. The position serves as a senior implementation leader responsible for translating institutional priorities into coordinated enrollment, operational, and student lifecycle strategies that support graduate and professional education across the institution.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Provides strategic oversight for graduate recruitment operations, admissions processes, enrollment infrastructure, onboarding systems, operational planning, enrollment intelligence, graduate communications, and administrative operations supporting graduate education.
  • Ensures that graduate enrollment systems, processes, technologies, and services are aligned to support sustainable enrollment growth, student achievement, and institutional priorities.
  • Serves as a key institutional partner in advancing graduate enrollment priorities and collaborates extensively with academic schools, Enrollment Management, the Registrar, Financial Aid, Online Education, International Affairs, Information Technology, Institutional Analytics, and other campus partners to ensure effective, student-centered, scalable, and data-informed systems supporting the graduate student lifecycle.
  • Collaborates closely with the Assistant Dean for Student Success and Professional Development to align enrollment strategies, operational processes, and student support initiatives that promote persistence, degree completion, and career success across the graduate student lifecycle.
  • Provides operational leadership and cross-functional coordination for graduate enrollment management initiatives, organizational transformation efforts, process improvement strategies, change management initiatives, and institutional planning designed to strengthen graduate recruitment, enrollment, persistence, degree completion, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Uses enrollment intelligence, market insights, operational analytics, and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence-enabled decision support tools to advance data-informed decision-making, operational effectiveness, enrollment growth, and continuous improvement across the graduate student lifecycle.
General Responsibilities
  • Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define student services methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority student services projects/initiatives.
  • Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase student services initiatives.
  • Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
  • Manages high level assignments and allocation of student services resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale student services projects with wide audiences in support of academic, wellness, inclusion, and safety initiatives.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
  • Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry student services standards, technologies, policies, and procedures; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
  • Works collaboratively with other student services leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
  • Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to student services.

EDUCATION
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in law, public health, public affairs, counseling, social work, or a related field.
Preferred
  • Master's degree in higher education student affairs or a related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 4 years in student services, higher education student affairs, or a related field.
  • 1 year of management experience in a relevant field.
