Student Remote Developer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Student Remote Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Student Remote Developer, you need a solid grasp of programming languages (such as Python, JavaScript, or Java), foundational computer science concepts, and experience with version control, often backed by coursework or personal projects. Familiarity with development tools like Git, collaborative platforms such as GitHub, and possibly basic certifications (like freeCodeCamp or Codecademy) is highly valuable. Strong time management, proactive communication, and the ability to work independently make candidates stand out in remote settings. These skills ensure effective contributions to projects, reliable teamwork, and continued learning in a flexible, distributed environment.

What are some common challenges student remote developers face, and how can they overcome them?

Student remote developers often encounter challenges related to communication, time management, and balancing academic commitments with work responsibilities. Working remotely requires proactive communication with team members and mentors, which can be more difficult without in-person interactions. To overcome these challenges, it is important to use collaboration tools effectively, set clear expectations with supervisors, and maintain a structured daily schedule. Regular check-ins and seeking feedback can also help ensure alignment and professional growth while working remotely.

What is a Student Remote Developer?

A Student Remote Developer is a student who works on software development projects from a remote location, such as their home or campus, rather than commuting to a traditional office. These roles typically involve coding, testing, and collaborating with teams online, allowing students to gain practical experience while balancing their academic commitments. Student Remote Developers often participate in internships, freelance work, or part-time positions, and use tools like version control systems and communication platforms to contribute effectively from a distance.

What is the difference between Student Remote Developer vs Intern Developer?

Student Remote Developers focus on learning and gaining experience remotely while still enrolled in school, often working on personal or freelance projects. Intern Developers are typically students or recent graduates participating in structured internship programs to build industry experience. Both roles are remote-friendly and industry-relevant, but Student Remote Developers emphasize ongoing education, whereas Intern Developers are more about structured training.

Job description

About Turing:

Turingโ€™s mission is to accelerate superintelligence to drive real economic progress. Headquartered in San Francisco, Turing works with frontier AI labs to generate high-quality data, evaluations, and reinforcement learning environments that improve model capabilities in coding, reasoning, tool use, and multimodality. In coding, Turing is the largest and longest-running data provider in the category. Turing also works with Fortune 500 enterprises across Financial Services, Life Sciences, Healthcare, Retail, Automotive, and CPG to build and deploy end-to-end agentic AI systems inside mission-critical workflows. By operating on both sides, Turing closes the loop between frontier research and enterprise deployment, turning real-world deployment signals into better data, evaluations, and more capable models.

Role Overview:

We are hiring US-based finance and accounting professionals to contribute senior domain expertise to data curation for frontier AI models and labs. The work supports a longitudinal finance and business operations dataset used by AI developers, enterprise teams, and research groups.

This is the senior reviewer track of the project. You will lead reviews of complex financial and operational scenarios, contribute to the development of evaluation frameworks, and serve as an expert advisor for client teams reviewing AI model outputs.

The role is designed for experienced finance professionals who want their expertise to contribute to rigorous AI evaluation and who are interested in AI evaluation, methodology, and the durable infrastructure of financial AI systems.

What You'll Do Day-to-Day:

  • Lead senior-level review of complex or ambiguous finance, accounting, and operational business cases.
  • Facilitate structured resolution of disagreements among reviewers.
  • Contribute to the development of financial evaluation frameworks.
  • Provide expert advisory hours to client teams reviewing AI model outputs.
  • Author standards-aligned financial and operational commentary on cases as needed.
  • Provide subject matter expertise across accounting, finance, tax, and business operations as appropriate.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in finance, accounting, or operations at a US-based company, with exposure to retail, e-commerce, or consumer brands.
  • Background in one or more of the following: Investment Banking (Retail/Consumer Coverage)
  • Big 4 Audit or Advisory
  • Corporate FP&A
  • Controllership
  • DTC/E-commerce Operations
  • CPA and/or CFA strongly preferred.
  • Direct familiarity with: US GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • US tax structures (sales tax nexus, 1099s, W-2s)
  • US employment practices (I-9s, at-will employment, benefits administration)
  • Practical knowledge of month-end close processes, board reporting, vendor negotiations, and fulfillment cycles.
  • Experience using tools such as Shopify, QuickBooks, Zendesk, HubSpot, Workday, Slack, and Google Workspace.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to different audiences.
  • High attention to numerical detail and ability to reconcile data across multiple interconnected documents and systems.
  • Strong written articulation of financial reasoning suitable for review and evaluation.
  • Ability to lead and document reviewer consensus.
  • Disciplined adherence to project protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior exposure to AI evaluation, digital transformation initiatives, financial technology, or business process automation.
  • Experience reviewing financial documentation, operational workflows, audit materials, or business process outputs.
  • Experience mentoring, training, or managing finance and accounting professionals.

Performance Expectations:

  • Senior reviewer responsibility on assigned evaluation batches.
  • Financially sound and defensible documentation.
  • Consistent reliability with peer reviewers.
  • Constructive client-facing communication during advisory hours.

Perks of Freelancing with Turing:

  • Competitive pay and flexible remote work.
  • Learn how advanced AI systems are trained.
  • Be part of cutting-edge projects with top LLM companies.
  • Potential for contract extension.
  • Freelance perks: flexibility, global collaboration, and future-proof skills.
