Job description

PURPOSE- To provide high school students with the opportunity to gain professional work experience within Tribal Administration. Through this program, interns will receive hands-on exposure to the operations and responsibilities of tribal government, including tribal land management, tribal sovereignty, cultural and historical preservation, land-related issues, and the functions of various tribal administrative offices. The internship will be conducted over a five-week period, from June 8th through July 9th, with interns working four days per week for six hours per day. To ensure a meaningful and personalized learning experience, participation in the program will be limited to four interns.

WHO MAY APPLY- High school students apart of the graduating classes of 2026, 2027, 2028, and 2029 who are on track for graduation. Preference will be given to students in the classes of 2026, 2027, and 2028. We will at all times give preference to American Indians, as allowed by federal law. This preference will be given to applications in the following priority:

1. Members of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians.

2. Lineal descendants of members of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians.
3. Member or lineal descendent of a federally recognized California Tribe.
4. Member or lineal descendent of a federally recognized Tribe.

DETERMINATION OF ELIGIBILITY-
A. Applicants must be enrolled in High School and part of graduating classes of 2026, 2027, 2028 or 2029.
B. Have an interest in exploring a career in Tribal Affairs.
C. Applicants must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
D. Applicants must be willing to sign a work agreement with Morongo.

OBLIGATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES-

A. Applicants must commit to working a minimum of 120 hours within a 5-week session, June 8th - July 9th.
B. Applicants must commit to working the 2026 Morongo cultural days weekend, June 13th - June 14th.
C. Maintain a daily log of their work activities.
D. Completion of an individual project tailored to the interests of the intern. The intern must present this project on the final day of their session.
E. Final deliverables to be provided by the intern upon completion of their internship session:
1. A cumulation of all professional documentation produced during the program.
2. A final summarized written report of the intern's experience in the program
3. A final written report of the intern's individual project.

PROVISIONS- $16.90 per hour minus taxes, plus compensation for mileage if more than 15 miles (one way).
