Job description

Job Title:         MLP Student Testing Assistant         Wage/Hour Status:      Non-Exempt

Reports to:      Director of Multilingual             Pay Grade:             AS 4 / 205 days

Dept./School:  Educational Services                Date Revised:           July 15, 2026  


Primary Purpose:
Coordinate and administer state-required language assessments while supporting multilingual students through identification, placement, progress monitoring, and program compliance. Work collaboratively with campuses, students, and families to ensure timely assessment, accurate records, appropriate instructional and course recommendations, and services that support student success. Assist with the enrollment, assessment, and educational support of newcomer students as needed. Serve as a department resource supporting LPAC processes, transcript evaluation, graduation planning, newcomer services, and state and federal compliance.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
    Associates degree or high school diploma recommended

Special Knowledge/Skills:
    Bilingual (English/Spanish) recommended
    Ability to establish positive relationships with multilingual students, families, and campus personnel.
    Knowledge of second language acquisition, multilingual education, and TEA requirements.
    Knowledge of LPAC procedures, TELPAS, LAS Links, STAAR accommodations, PEIMS, and multilingual compliance.
    Ability to administer, score, and manage language proficiency assessments.
    Ability to analyze assessment data, transcripts, and student records to support placement and instructional recommendations.
    Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and customer service skills.
    Ability to maintain confidential information and manage multiple priorities.
    Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and student information systems.








Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1.    Coordinate, administer, and score state-approved language proficiency assessments in accordance with TEA guidelines.
2.    Work directly with multilingual and newcomer students to provide a positive, student-centered assessment experience while supporting their successful transition into district programs as needed.
3.    Provide direct academic and linguistic support to Emergent Bilingual students, individually or in groups, as assigned and in coordination with teachers, campus staff, and department leadership.
4.    Coordinate campus assessment schedules and communicate timelines with campus personnel.
5.    Maintain accurate testing records, student data, and electronic documentation.
6.    Review assessment results, transcripts, and academic records to support multilingual student identification, placement, monitoring, reclassification, exit decisions, and instructional planning.
7.    Collaborate with counselors, registrars, LPAC committees, teachers, and administrators to recommend and communicate appropriate instructional services, course placement, graduation pathways, and language supports.
8.    Assist with newcomer student enrollment, language assessment, transcript evaluation, graduation credit reviews, orientation to district procedures, and coordination of multilingual student services as needed.  
9.    Generate and verify district, state, and federal reports related to multilingual programs.
10.    Provide technical assistance and training to campus personnel regarding assessments, LPAC processes, and multilingual compliance.
11.    Develop training materials and guidance resources for campuses.
12.    Maintain accurate multilingual student records, assessment documentation, and electronic files in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.
13.    Support Title III initiatives, family engagement activities, professional learning, and department projects.
14.    Support campus staff with interpretation of language assessment data and provide recommendations to improve multilingual student outcomes.
15.    Train new multilingual staff district wide as needed.
16.    Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Multilingual and Academic Programs.
17.    Maintain a high level of professionalism while providing exceptional customer service to students, families, and district personnel. Comply with all federal, state, and local policies governing multilingual education and student assessment.
18.    Maintain the integrity, security, and confidentiality of testing materials and student information.
19.    Demonstrate professionalism, initiative, teamwork, dependability, and exceptional customer service.
20.    Establish positive working relationships with students, families, campus personnel, and community partners.

Environment: Frequent district-wide travel; office and campus settings; occasional prolonged or irregular hours during assessment windows.
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism; communicate effectively (verbal and written communication) with students, families, and staff.
