Job description

The International Institute of St. Louis is seeking an energetic, compassionate, culturally responsive, and reliable Assistant Instructor to support our after school programming for refugee and immigrant youth. This role is ideal for someone who believes in the transformative power of shared experiences and community building, and is committed to creating an inclusive, engaging, and welcoming environment for young people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

The Assistant Instructor will work closely with the Teen Programming Coordinator to facilitate educational and enrichment activities that promote confidence, creativity, and connection.
Candidates should demonstrate cultural humility, responsiveness, and an understanding of the unique experiences and challenges faced by refugee and immigrant communities. The ideal candidate approaches youth with energy, empathy, and a commitment to trauma-informed, strengths-based practice.

Monday-Thursday: 1:45 pm-5:45 pm (occasionally flexed hours for field trips)
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Support the planning and implementation of educational, recreational, and enrichment programming for refugee and immigrant youth in the St. Louis community.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment where all youth feel respected, supported, and encouraged to participate.
  • Support documentation of student participation, engagement, and program activities.
  • Assist with planning and chaperoning field trips, special events, and group activities, including occasional activities outside regular program hours.
  • Support volunteer engagement in ways that are safe, productive, and aligned with program goals.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with youth, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with youth, camps, after-school programs, or educational settings.
  • Experience working with refugee, immigrant, multilingual, or multicultural communities.
  • HS Diploma with some college credits
Knowledge, Skills, amp; Ability Requirements:
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to pass a standard background check
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor;
