How much do student planner jobs pay per year?
What are some typical challenges faced by Student Planners, and how can they be overcome?
What is the difference between Student Planner vs Academic Advisor?
| Aspect | Student Planner | Academic Advisor |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Typically high school diploma or associate degree | Bachelor’s degree or higher, often in education or counseling |
| Work Environment | Schools, educational programs, or online platforms | Colleges, universities, or academic institutions |
| Employer & Industry | Educational institutions, tutoring centers, or online education | Higher education institutions, colleges, universities |
| Primary Role | Assist students with scheduling, organization, and time management | Guide students academically, plan course schedules, and provide career advice |
While both roles support students' academic success, a Student Planner primarily helps with organization and scheduling, whereas an Academic Advisor offers broader academic guidance and career planning. Understanding these differences can help students seek the right support for their educational journey.

Job description
The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life oversees the 22 social fraternities and sororities at the University of Utah and exists to provide programming and support in the areas of campus engagement, personal and community development, health and wellness, risk reduction and prevention, and the promotion of leadership development. This is done through the engagement of student leaders, faculty, staff, advisors, and alumni.
We are hiring student staff who will serve as Fraternity & Sorority Peer Wellbeing Ambassadors (PWAs) with our team. We are recruiting approximately 2 positions.
PWAs are a committed group of students who understand the importance of health and wellness, the value of connecting students to resources on campus to be successful while at the U, and who want to empower themselves and their peers to make positive changes. During their first semester as a PWA, students will learn about the different programs and services that CCW and FSL offers and will further the missions of both offices by supporting our outreach efforts (through tabling, workshop presentations and researched based content creation).
General PWA Trainings Include:
All PWAs will assist with the following educational and awareness campaigns: Annual campaigns like Suicide Prevention, Domestic Violence Awareness, Healthy Relationships, Harm Reduction, and Sexual Assault Awareness months; frequent STI testing clinics; educational workshops on healthy relationships, bystander intervention, etc.; and so much more...
FSL Branch: FSL PWAs will train with CCW and assist staff from the Fraternity and Sorority Life office to plan, implement, and evaluate health education programs for their FSL peers. These programs will include many of the workshops that the other PWAs lead indicated above, as well as programming that is specifically designed for Fraternity and Sorority Life. Some examples include hazing prevention, campus resource education, risk reduction training, etc.
Scheduling Expectations:
Beginning Fall Semester through the last day of classes for the spring semester, PWAs are expected to work 10-12 hours per week. These hours may be held during regular business hours (8-5, M-F) but will also include evening or weekend events/programs. For FSL PWAs, these office hours will be held in the FSL Office. PWAs will not be required to work during academic breaks (fall, winter, spring), University closure days or holidays when Student Affairs is closed, or during finals week for the fall or spring semester.
Mandatory Training (Paid): 25 hours of online, self-paced training to complete during the summer.
This role is work study eligible.
- Tabling, as well as planning and implementing events on campus that raise awareness and share resources/services related to the health and wellness topics indicated above
- Facilitating educational workshops, discussions, and presentations
- Being knowledgeable about the offices, with an ability to engage and answer questions from visitors and stakeholders for both CCW and FSL
- Serving as a wellness resource for FSL peers and all students
- Assist in research-based content creation to educate about various wellness topics and promote programs (print and digital) through flyers, social media, brochures, etc.
- Contributing educational content through blog posts, social media, and more
- Delivering sexual health education and resource navigation mentoring in 1:1 meetings with students.
- Planning and implementing health education programs and events, reviewing programs and offering feedback, and developing engaging presentations, activities, and facilitation techniques.
- Researching trends and creating engaging educational content and program promotion. Connect with various offices around campus to expand our messaging.
- Have completed at least one year at the University of Utah by the time position begins
- Must be in good standing with the University of Utah, both academically and in conduct
