What is a student pilot?

A student pilot spends their time mastering the basics of piloting an aircraft. They learn the controls, scientific principles that enable flight, relevant laws, aircraft maintenance duties, and proper methods of communication such as a radio. As a student pilot, you need to be able to demonstrate each and every one of these skills before you can fly an aircraft solo. After becoming proficient in flying and operating a smaller aircraft, a student pilot can further train toward a job piloting larger aircraft and a fulfilling career in aviation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a student pilot, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Student Pilot, you need a strong understanding of aviation theory, basic aeronautical knowledge, and hold at least a valid medical certificate and student pilot license. Familiarity with flight simulators, navigation systems, and aviation communication tools is also crucial. Excellent situational awareness, discipline, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are standout soft skills in this field. These skills and qualities are vital for ensuring safety, effective learning, and progression toward becoming a licensed pilot.

What are some common challenges student pilots face during flight training, and how can they be addressed?

Student pilots often encounter challenges such as mastering complex flight maneuvers, managing cockpit workload, and overcoming initial nervousness or fear of flying. Balancing theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice can also be demanding, especially when adapting to new environments or unfamiliar aircraft. To address these challenges, it's helpful to communicate openly with instructors, consistently review flight procedures, and dedicate time to both simulator and real-world practice. Staying organized and seeking support from peers can also make the training process smoother and more enjoyable.

Job description

Engagement

90-day project-based technical contractor

Work Arrangement

Remote/Hybrid | U.S. and global distributed-team collaboration

Reports To

Founder & CEO, with operational coordination through the Global Pilot & Strategic Partnerships Lead

About the Role

The Technical Product & QA Lead will own platform-readiness assurance for Verde Nexus during the flagship pilot and capital-mobilization period.

The role is not expected to redesign the entire platform during the 90-day sprint. Its priority is ensuring that critical user journeys, integrations, payments, security-sensitive functions and demonstration workflows remain reliable and investor/pilot ready while capital and partnership activity accelerates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish the master QA/test plan.
  • Identify mission-critical platform workflows.
  • Maintain regression test suites.
  • Test instructor, student, affiliate, vendor and administrative workflows.
  • Validate registration, authentication and user-access flows.
  • Test marketplace and commerce workflows.
  • Validate Stripe/payment and transaction processes within authorized test environments.
  • Test referral/affiliate tracking logic.
  • Validate notifications, user states and permission levels.
  • Test mobile/responsive behavior.
  • Validate multilingual/global-user workflows where implemented.
  • Review Supabase/API/integration behavior with developers.
  • Maintain structured defect logs with severity classifications.
  • Reproduce and document defects before escalation.
  • Coordinate fixes with developers or technical vendors.
  • Conduct regression testing following changes.
  • Maintain demo-readiness checklist.
  • Produce weekly technical-health reports.
  • Identify technical issues that could impair investor demonstrations, partner pilots, payments or user trust.
  • Coordinate security findings with external security specialists.
  • Maintain release/readiness documentation.

What Success Looks Like

  • Critical demo workflows function reliably.
  • Payment and core business flows are tested before pilot exposure.
  • High-severity defects are visible and prioritized.
  • Technical problems are documented—not discovered unexpectedly during demonstrations.
  • QA evidence exists for material platform workflows.
  • Technical work does not derail the capital-acquisition sprint.

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong web/SaaS QA experience.
  • Manual and automated testing experience.
  • Experience testing authentication, payments, APIs and role-based systems.
  • Familiarity with React, modern web applications and cloud/SaaS architecture.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Linear, GitHub issues or equivalent.
  • Experience with test-case design and regression management.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues to nontechnical executives.
  • E-learning, marketplace, fintech/payment or subscription-platform experience advantageous.
  • Strong security awareness.
  • Degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or equivalent practical experience welcomed but not mandatory.

Compensation & Growth

  • Fixed project/milestone fee.
  • Potential quality/performance milestone bonuses defined before work begins.
  • Funding-triggered extension may become available.
  • Strong performers may be considered for funded technical/product leadership.
