Job Summary and Qualifications

The Pharmacy Intern’s primary role is to be performing pharmacy-related tasks under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, while enrolled in an accredited Pharmacy program.

 Essential Functions / Job Duties: 

  1. Assists in the delivery of patient education as it relates to medication management 
  1. Assists the Pharmacist in the prompt and accurate processing of physician's orders to facilitate printing of medication/sterile products labels and reports as needed for patient care. 
  1. Performs proper documentation of compounding of sterile preparations batched for single or multiple patient usage. 
  1. Ensures medications/sterile products are prepared as scheduled, checked by a pharmacist and delivered accurately on a timely basis.
  1. Assists with the dispensing of medications and controlled drugs to automated dispensing systems (i.e. Pyxis). Ensure that medication pick, refill and delivery through automated dispensing systems is done accurately, timely and according to established schedules and guidelines. Automated dispensing systems include medstations and anesthesia carts located throughout patient care, surgical and procedures areas.
  1. Assists with the supervision and management of drug storage areas for cleanliness, security and organization. 
  1. Completes and documents monthly inspections for expired medications 
  1. Documents all drug storage refrigerator temperatures and communicates variances 
  1. Assists with physical inventory counts as required 
  1. Performs other duties as assigned 
  1. Demonstrates working knowledge of AIDET, utilizing with each patient interaction
  1. Regular, reliable attendance is required to ensure the highest level of patient care 
  1. Follows hospital safety and quality standards and expectations, as it pertains to job performance and patient care 
  1. Attends all required training and education
