Job description

Functioning within the Health System's mission, vision, values, policies and procedures, the Unit Secretary/PCT/Monitor Tech performs as a partner to the Registered Nurse with the goal of providing quality patient care. In addition to patient care, the Unit Secretary/PCT/Monitor Tech performs a variety of clerical tasks as needed. In addition to patient care and tasking clerically, the Unit Secretary/PCT/Monitor Tech identifies, monitors and records cardiac rhythms while keeping the Registered Nurse informed.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED) is preferred. Additional education in medical terminology and/or clerical skills is preferred. Must successfully complete LMHS Sec/PCT orientation program and demonstrate competency on all skills. Must pass the cardiac proficiency test or successfully complete basic cardiac class/training and demonstrate competency in all monitor tech skills.
Licensure/Certification: Current BLS required or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Must prove successful completion of an approved nurse aide training and competency program; OR
Actively registered as an STNA in the State of Ohio (preferred); OR
As an RN student, have completed 2nd quarter or 1st semester clinicals in a Nursing Associate's Degree or diploma program or be a 2nd year student in a B.S.N program; OR
As an LPN student, have completed 2nd quarter or 1st semester clinicals in a Licensed Practical Nurse Training Program.
Current certification as a Certified Cardiac Monitor Telemetry Technician (CCMTT) is preferred.
Experience: Previous experience as a Patient Care Tech/Unit Secretary or Monitor Tech is preferred.
Skills: Must have excellent "customer service" skills, including the ability to exhibit patience and tact with all constituents including physicians, patients and associates. Must demonstrate flexibility with work schedule changes, be cooperative and collaborative, and have the documented ability to work with speed and proficiency while under stress. Must have basic computer skills and EMR (electronic medical records) experience. Must be able to print and write legibly and accurately. Possess the ability to calculate simple mathematics and follow instructions. Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred. Must possess excellent time management skills.
Must exhibit ability to identify all types of cardiac rhythms and differentiate for urgency in notification to the Registered Nurse when needed.
