Job description

Established by the Sisters of the St. Francis in 1924, CHI Health Good Samaritan is a 268-bed regional referral center in Kearney, Neb. At CHI Health Good Samaritan, you’ll find an advanced level trauma center that also offers AirCare emergency helicopter transport and an ambulance program providing long distance and local 911 service. Among our many other services are cardiac care including open-heart surgery, a level II neonatal intensive care unit, a nationally accredited cancer center, comprehensive neurosurgery, advanced orthopedic program, and inpatient and outpatient mental health services at our free-standing Richard Young Behavioral Health facility.


As a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), you will provide essential patient care, contributing to comfort, safety, and recovery under RN direction. You will deliver compassionate basic care, assist with patient transport, and actively contribute to the plan of care as a vital member of our interdisciplinary team. Success in this role requires a dedicated spirit of service, strong communication, meticulous patient support, and an unwavering commitment to dignified, high-quality healthcare.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Patient Handoff & Rounds: Receive patient reports from outgoing CNA; conduct hourly rounds, checking vitals, maintaining whiteboard info, and assisting with care.
  • Mobility & Transport: Assist with patient ambulation (e.g., to recliners, bathroom, or down halls) and safely transport discharged patients to vehicles.
  • Personal Care: Assist patients with hygiene needs, including full or assisted bed baths, or providing supplies for ambulatory patients.
  • Clinical Support (under RN direction): Assist bedside nurses with procedures (e.g., tube insertions) and wound care/dressing changes, including patient positioning, supply management, and cleanup.
  • General Care & Documentation: Change bed linens, check patient weights, perform other assigned tasks, and document all care in the patient's record.

Contribution to Nursing Process (under Licensed Practitioner/RN/LPN Supervision):

  • Assessment: Contribute to health status assessment.
  • Planning: Contribute to the care plan via observation, data collection, and communication.
  • Implementation: Provide basic patient care as delegated.
  • Evaluation: Contribute to evaluation through observation of responses and communication of findings.

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Successful Completion of the 75-hour state-approved Nursing Assistant course
  • Active Nurse Aide (CNA) license in good standing in Nebraska
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association
