Job description

The Nurse Tech performs various patient care activities and related nonprofessional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. The Nurse Tech provides basic patient care and assist with activities of daily living (ADL)s under close supervision of the nurse. Basic patient care and ADLs are defined as: patient bathing, feeding, and preparation for treatment, takes and records vital signs, changes bed linen, prepares treatment trays and other supplies, and assists nursing service personnel with a variety of other patient care duties that they have verified completion of competencies. Relies on establish guidelines to accomplish tasks. The Nurse Tech works under close supervision of the nurse.

  • Student Nurse in good standing with completion of basic patient skills within nursing program.
  • Must be a student nurse currently enrolled in aRegistered Nurse accredited School of Nursing program who is in the Junior or Senior level year that has completed their second clinical rotation (Med/Surg clinicals).
  • Student Nurse in good standing within an accredited program.
  • Communication, Customer Service, computer Skills and Knowledge of Medical Terminology.

  1. Patient Care
    1. Assists in patient admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
    2. Measures, collects, and documents patient data according to policy (e.g., weight, vital signs, O2 sats) and reports symptoms, reactions, and changes in patients' condition to the Registered Nurse.
    3. Assists patients with activities of daily living and appropriate patient care (personal hygiene, linen changes, assists with meals, elimination).
    4. Assists with transporting and mobility needs of patient.
    5. Retrieves medications from the pneumatic tube system and/or pharmacy and delivers the medications to the nurse and/or place medications in a secure location as determined by the nurse manager.
    6. Keeps patient rooms and nursing station areas clean and orderly.
  2. Collaboration & Partnership
    1. Assists physicians with examination, treatments, and special tests. Collects patient specimens and transports specimens to the lab.
    2. Performs procedures consistent with standards set forth by their school of nursing and level of nursing education completed under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
    3. Utilizes equipment safely for patient care as directed by a Registered Nurse.
  3. Quality
    1. Adheres to standards of nursing and the policies and procedures set forth by the institution in an effort to enhance the quality and efficiency of hospital nursing services.
    2. Utilizes all equipment, supplies, and resources in a prudent and efficient manner.
    3. Observes and adheres to quality standards established by the department. Participates in continuous quality improvement programs.
    4. Is aware of behavioral/psychological changes of patients and promptly reports changes to assigned nurse or charge nurse. Adapts care to thepatients need and level of development.
